Because most of the videos from 1000 ways to die are filmed there. Explaining how stupid the people are.

1. The laws are totally nuts. Examples: They can't raise the property tax whatsoever without a public referendum approving the measure; they follow the "one molecule theory," where if a substance is known to cause ill effects in any concentration (it might have to be as high as one part in every two), one molecule is enough to cause those symptoms (usually cancer). Ergo, you see a lot of stuff branded "This product is known to the state of California to cause X, Y, and Z". So basically on anything made in CA.

2. That's where most of the really annoying ultra-left wing (actually ultra-left wing, not what Rush Limbaugh/Glenn Beck consider ultra-left, i.e., anyone who disagrees with them) people are. And my god they are annoying as hell.

3. Stereotypes. People from California are druggies, hipsters, surfers, laid-back, don't have drive, etc etc, duuuuuuuude. In reality most people are not at all like that.

4. People think it's cool to hate on California.

5. Their video game law history has been whack. Odd, considering their otherwise libertarian image.

Addenda:

6. Prop 8, its repeal, and the challenging of the repeal in federal courts was highly polarizing. People want Arnold out of office because he refused to defend the law.

7. Prop 19 was also extremely polarizing. What with the people leaning right screaming something about pot destroying the moral foundation of society and a bunch of demonstrably inaccurate claims about weed, and what with the left-leaners shouting things about fascism and free choice and so on, the state became a place to direct most hate about the issue of marijuana. And most illegal drugs.

In what other state can you visit the coast, snow-peaked mountains, and the desert? In the end though, what you are looking for in a place to live is entirely up to you.
Texas. Well, minus the snow-capped mountains. But, we've got a few nice canyons and some great scenery. Also, yeehaw.

A lot of crazy laws get passed and then cited by others as a precident, their massive debt, their guns laws are horrible, the gaming thing hasn't helped much, and They want to take my states water yes I'm serious a lot of south western states are petitioning to tap into the great lakes for water because they can't manage their own resources. Thats why I don't like the state I'm sure some of the people are fine but look at who they've elected and what those people have done compared th the rest of the US and it's clear theirs a different set od ideals.

Because a lot of people outside the state think that it's full of gay abortionists who burn the American flag for fun? Just like how a lot of people think that anywhere in the South is nothing but a bunch of cousin-screwing, racist, gun nuts. Until you actually visit a place, you really don't know it. (California, for instance, is conservative enough that it refused to legalize marijuana in a recent election and banned gay marriage in the election before that...). Plus most people don't understand that the most populous states pay a higher tax bracket to finance infrastructure for less populous ones. And anyone who says it's "too hot," you guys need to keep moving north. Once you cross that middle line, it gets a lot more temperate.
The state's got it's flaws, of course, it's difficult to get anything done because our state government gets mired in crap far too often and, yes, we elected an action hero as our governor, but ya know what? Compare him to a lot of other governors and he's actually not THAT bad. Really the only thing you can say is that he's an action hero...and that's it. I think he's massively incompetent, but not vastly moreso than any other politician. The political correctness can grate quite a bit as can the attitude of superiority, but ultimately anywhere you go thinks they know what's best for the rest of the country. As for the videogame bill: it got defeated. Get over it.

The few people I have met from California were ass hats. When every other sentence started with
"Well in California..." you want to punch their genitals.

Never been there, but I think it's probably too hot for me. Still, I would like to stop by sometime.

The main problem with California is that when people think of it, they usually think of LA. That's not necessarily indefensible, as LA county holds about half of the state's population, but that's not all of California. LA is like a state all in its own and it's vastly different from the rest of California. (Note: This is true for a majority of states with a large population in one area, especially states with huge land area)

Yes.
About a third of the people I know that come from from Cali seem to have a collective attitude that leans toward "smugness" which is extremely off-putting. They have this overflowing amount of self confidence that's held up by twigs. Case in point: anytime they start going over-the-top, it's time for them to get behind the wheel when it's raining. Confidence quickly evaporates and they settle down.

Where else can you be expected to pay $500,000 for a 1200-square-foot condo? Or $1000/month for a studio apartment?
Come on down to Boston. Or maybe on the way, take a pit stop in New York.
Yes, the crazy real estate prices are in large measure driven by a lot of people all wanting to live in the same place, so supply-and-demand effects take over.

However, kindly note that Boston and New York both have mostly functional mass transit systems. SF Bay, not so much. There are at least seven transit authorities that I can think of off the top of my head, and where they integrate at all, they do so very poorly.

What? The trolley system is fantastic!! Hahaha, j/k. Yeah SF has such shoddy public transportation.
The money it takes to live in these three places is insane. The only redeeming factor about SF having those prices over the other two is that it's newer, so the places are a little bit bigger and the weather. The weather is pretty neutral in the Bay Area compared to the never-getting-used to weather of the North East.

But the trolleys are so quaint looking! They can't ever get rid of those, they bring in tourists.

Also, the humidity in the North East can be pretty awful. Sure, it rarely gets hotter than 100F, but a large portion of the summer is spent 80+ with 80+% humidity. In NYC anyway, I heard in a song about someone who heard that Boston is nice in the summer.

I live in Canada, and I view California as a place that has everything. You can go surf on the beach, you can go party in town, etc. You have LA, San Diego, San Francisco, Disneyland, Legoland, Universal Studios, Hollywood, kick-ass wineries, beaches, pro sports teams, great music, and more.

I think people are just jealous. California is the first place I would want to move if I moved out of Canada.
Oh, such innocent naivety. While all that is true, It's not worth the ridiculous housing prices. Case in point, to live as comfortably as someone living in Houston, a person living in San Francisco would have to earn 2, 3 times as much. A lot of my friends in California say it's too damn expensive. Houses that cost 100,000 in states like Texas cost 300,000 in places like LA and San Francisco. So, California is great, but to live comfortably you'd have to earn a lot of money.

Ive lived there for 20 years and never been botherd by it, as far as im concerned if anyone has a problem with another state or country do two things
1. dont live there
2. dont ***** that other people choose to live there
Well that only works when they don't have reach outside their country or state.

A person can legitimately ***** about that country or state in that case.

I've moved around way too much over my life, all over the country and internationally too, but California is where I have spent most of my time. I lived in a number of different cities across the state and I have noticed that California is probably our most diverse state in terms of both people's attitudes and environmentally, but people don't often see it that way. Instead either they assume the entire state is like the places they have been or is all like the stereotypes they have heard.

There are big cities here. -Very- big cities, too big of cities. But drive up the coast from San Francisco or into the mountains or the desert or the huge areas of farmland in the central valley and you can just get away from it all.

People think of it as being dry here because the south is more of a desert, but get to the north and you have a climate similar to Oregon with wet winters to the west and snowy ones on the east.

A lot of people have said its too hot, but I spent a winter living where I could walk from my house to where the donner party's camp was. People forget that half the Sierra-Nevada mountains are in California. The central valley and south eastern desert are really hot in the summer, but the whole coast line stays pretty temperate all year long.

The other thing I see mentioned a lot are natural disasters. We have them, earthquakes, mudslides, fires. Everyplace else has their own natural disasters too though and the ones here don't occur with any more frequency, its just easy to think something is odd that doesn't happen often near you. Earthquakes that you can actually feel are extremely few and far between, like unless you live directly on the fault line you will go years without actually feeling one and probably go your whole life without having one cause damage to your stuff. Fires and mudslides are just because the south doesn't get much rain. Californians tend to look at the rest of the country in the same way as they do us in this regard. 'Who would be crazy enough to live where there are tornados, or hurricanes or blizzards?'

Not to mention we're hit pretty hard by the bad economy.
