H-he ate his dog!?
Of course he did wrong.

If he was bored of it, why not let someone else take care of it?

Nothing at all, insofar as there's nothing wrong with eating meat in the first place.

Okay, eating a dog is a bit strange, and I'd find it sort of nasty if the dog in question wasn't a pitbull..

Really? It's wrong to eat animals? I didn't know we had PETA members here on the escapist, I might very well need to stop coming here if that's the case.
Somewhere on The Escapist, there is a 75x75 picture of the lead singer of Paramore shedding a tear...
Shame on you.

He really should have taken it to a dog pound if he was bored of it. But then, it was a pitbull which wouldn't have been likely to find a home. However, I'm not overly disgusted by his actions. We eat pigs, cows, chickens and many other animals, it's seems rather odd for western culture to shy away from eating other things.

And on a slightly related note, I wish to quote a gem:
"A dog is not just for christmas; there should be some left on boxing day too."

I would have prefered the guy did eat a human.

God knows they do more wrong than dogs.

No, not really. Considering this quote from the article: "Under New Zealand's Animal Welfare Act it is legal to kill a dog if it is slaughtered swiftly and painlessly."

That seems like a fair law, the dog is his property after all and it wasn't particularly cruel to kill it.

Meh, the only difference between him eating his pet, and him eating packaged meat is that he did the deed himself and most of the animals eaten aren't domesticated. Maybe I should domesticate a deer and call those who eat venison scum.

It's all a matter of perspective, he hasn't done anything wrong in my eyes.

Because of his actions or because "dick" is your default opinion on people?
A little from column A, a little from column B...

I think they were a main dish in Hannibal Rising.

He did wrong, he killed an animal because he was bored of it. Sure it's great that he did it humanely, but to kill your pet because it's just somethin to do?

I've known plenty of dogs who were much more interesting than the majority of people I've met.
Agreed.

I don't see why the guy had to eat his dog, though.

Basically all I can think of.

If he ate almost any other creature then people would turn a blind eye. But just because it's a dog, we're gonna see many "It's so wrong!" opinions. What makes it any more "wrong" than eating the cooked flesh of a cow, pig or fish? Nothing at all.

Yes, the man is a dick.
He killed his pet because he was bored of it, when in reality he bought it so he should put up with the responsibility of owning it and taking care of it in a healthy manner.
You can't legally kill your child even if it was conceived on accident and you get tired of caring for your 'mistake', owning a pet falls under the same set of responsibility, only this time he never had to buy the animal in the first place. It makes no sense to punish the animal for this persons own idiocy.

I don't have a problem with him eating the animal, or if he had killed it for a legitimate reason (the current not being one of them).
Pit bulls are only violent since they are still used and bred for fighting, the person who wrote the article is an idiot.
The man who killed his dog out of boredom is just as much of an idiot, only for different reasons.

I may support PETA and all, but it's the law of the jungle. So long as the animal didn't suffer through a terrible death it's fine by me. I actually wouldn't mind eating dog one day. Or cat for that matter.

Godwin'ed already? It's only been two pages!

Also, a dog is a dog like any other animal. We eat meat from animals. The only time I vaguely draw the line is when you're talking about human or primate meat, mostly because of the dangerous diseases that can be passed by consumption of such (see prions and the possible origin of AIDS from consuming bush-meat). If the choice is between starving to death and eating your dead companion, however, even human meat can be fair game.

My biggest problem with so-called animal lovers is the fact that they refuse to acknowledge that humans are simply animals; a more intelligent and evolved animal but one nonetheless. Animals eat meat to survive. The end.
