I saw a woman recently who looked like she was beyond size zero.

I just had one thought, "Eww"

Because opinions. Beauty is highly subjective, everybody has their own conception of it.

Some people find obesity attractive, some like big eyes or a certain colour of skin or hair. I prefer skinny women with short hair. Why? No idea, I'm just more attracted to them.
I bet there're some psychological and cultural/social elements involved but in the end, who cares?

Most of those girls seemed fine health wise to me. Some might be skinny because they are active in sports and have a fast metabolism or something. In my opinion, it's only really a problem when they become like a skeleton.

Edit: Just looked at the video again, and I think I must retract my statement to a certain degree. A lot of those girls look like they have been trying to lose weight and are borderline unhealthy. I must have clicked on a different video afterward or something.

Agreed with the spirit. I sum it up as I always have, great de-motivational poster I saw once.-

"Curves- if I wanted to be with someone with the body of a ten-year old boy, I'd just be with a ten-year old boy."

I like thin women, because I like to throw them around, during sex. I am kinda strong, but it's just easier with the 45-60 kg girls, than with the 60-70 kg ones. Though, I wouldn't be turned off by them.

If they get above 70, thats another thing... Obesity is not at all sexy.

There are, IMHO, a couple reasons people prefer skinny girls these days:

One is that it implies a higher level of wealth. Food higher in nutrition versus calories is more expensive than more fattening foods that you need to eat more of to get the same level of nutrition, as well as gym memberships and the free time to spend worrying about how big your ass is.

The other is that a lot of men have something in common with a certain bear who's friend to children. And I'm not talking about Smokey. Yes, some men really want to have sex with pre-teen girls but can't because it's illegal (and they seem unable to notice that it's gross or implies a level of immaturity in that the objects of their sexual interest are stuck at the level they were at when they were themselves pre-teens). So they pick the closest thing they can find: girls who can fit into a size 0 and who God forgot to give tits to.

Also, that movie was a whole series of ladies who could stand a few more meatball subs in their diet.

Anorexia is a horrible mental condition and thinspiration aggravates and enhances the negative effects.

There's no problem with being skinny, but there is a problem with starving yourself till you're so malnourished you get confused for a xylophone.

well, my personal rule is that when you can see the ribs, it's too skinny. not even pretty anymore, it just looks unhealthy..
in general, we are probably just hardwired by society and evolution to find atractive what is considered "healthy" in our period.

And when I mean skinny I mean skinny skinny, like this

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=711ynu4aYdY

I really really don't get it. I can't even share my views on why I don't like it because they're too harsh, even for the internet.

But to sum it up, when I hear of women who are already tiny want to loose weight, I can't help but think of this guy;

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kUAPDvo2UBM

So can someone please explain to me why this is attractive?
Look up cocaine chique (I think that's how it is spelt) but yeah this is pretty much where the modern idea of beauty comes from. It was easier for fashion designers to make clothes for skinny women which created a cycle of imitation with both models and ordinary women. This was after the image of the post WW2 ideal woman with was considerably bigger (size 16). Now it's just the aftermath of this and most people are brain washed into thinking that skinny = beauty and fat = ugly. When neither are correct.

So to answer your question it is because of society and the media that people think this way. But with a lot of fashion movements around the world plus sized fashion is coming back, slowly.

You're complaining that this hasn't been "answered," but it's a poorly-framed question.

Explain to me why sardines taste good. Except I hate sardines, so really I'm just baiting you and setting you up for failure. But even then... can you explain why they taste good? Are you going to use chemistry, or are you just going to say, "Because I really, really like them!" or some other anecdotal explanation?

There is no incorrect way to have a body. Some people are skinny, some people are fat, some people have long torsos, some have thick legs, some have long noses. Some people choose short haircuts, some choose long haircuts. Some have piercings, some don't. And there are people who are attracted to each of those groups mentioned above.

Right now, the mainstream media is pushing the idea of "not being obese," because of the many, many health complications that arise from obesity. Fact is, there are more long-term complications for obesity than for being "skinny."* Preferring skinny people is, in a way, a reaction to that belief -- we prefer people we view as "healthy." Back in the "olden days," it was skinny people who were seen as unhealthy (or too poor to eat), so "fat" women were more attractive. That has shifted.

Being skinny is neither attractive nor unattractive. But some people find it attractive or unattractive. And rarely do we understand the root psychological, cultural, or biological causes for any of our preferences.

*There is also a difference between "being skinny" and actually being malnourished. Some people look like that, but are getting all the necessary calories, vitamins, and minerals to sustain their bodies. In the same way, there is a difference between being 300 lbs of muscle and 300 lbs of fat, even if (in some cases) they look similar to a casual observer.

This XD. But being kinda short and skinny myself it taken me a while to notice most of the girls I dated were really skinny, but then they also did yoga and weighed around 7 and a half stone..... So yeah what that guy said XD

Personally, I don't see skinny as being attractive. Yes, it may be nice to look at, but the woman who stole my heart is a size 12 (after she diets) and a size 14-16 most times, and I consider her to be the sexiest woman alive. Her sister is about a size 4... at most... and I can't even look at her with anything but disgust because of her body structure. The girl looks like she needs a sandwich and a Kit Kat bar.

Some people look like that without starving themselves, just like some people look "chubby" without cramming their faces full of cake. The way someone looks does not provide you an entirely accurate picture of their health. Assumptions made about skinny people are just as wrong as those made about fat people.

I worked for about two years as a "plus size" model, at a size 12. (If you don't know womens sizing, the average fashion model is a 0-2, and plus size in a store starts at around an 18.) Showing up for photo calls and being the only girl around who had curves was very, very hard at times.

A lot of the "skinny" trend came from the 90s. That's where heroin chic (see: Kate Moss in the early/mid 90s) started.

Most people have heard "The camera adds 10 pounds." Which is true, ish. The problem with photography is a person is 3-D. A picture is 2-D. So the camera sort of "smashes" you out and makes you look wider, simply because something has to give. Models and actresses want to look skinny in those pictures, so they make up for the extra 10 by losing 30. Or 50.

Designers (as in top end) don't like the models to "affect" the drape and flow of the clothing as they walk the runway. They want their models to be walking hangers. I never worked for any line like that (not that I could have even if I had wanted to.) For shows like that, they bring the clothes in and every item is a size 2 or smaller. If you want to work and you can't fit? You don't get paid. They motivate the industry quite well just by doing that.

For instance, I once went to a photo shoot for a "plus size" company and the largest item they had was an 8. That is a not plus size, even in fashion world. So, I left. I thought I would be upset, but I wasn't. That is how that world works, and the more expensive the clothing they're paying you to wear is, the worse it gets.

The reason I got out of it wasn't because it made me feel awful about myself. I didn't live in L.A, I wasn't working super high end and I definitely was not famous so work was sporadic at best.

Afterwards, I did come up with some interesting observations about body image. For every guy that likes a skinny girl, there is a guy that likes a fat girl. WOMEN are the ones that feel they need to be that thin. (Granted, there are jerks who tell their girl to lose weight, etc. but they are fairly rare.) Women perpetuate this without meaning to.

Men like what they like. I have known more than enough guys who have no idea why their girl is constantly dieting and worrying about her looks when he's told her a million times she looks fine.

I seem to have gone off on a tangent. My point was really just to point out WHY there are so many skinny women in media and how it happened.

I dunno, because people misunderstand what men want I guess. The whole super skinny and massive tits thing is a pretty jarring look.

I don't know. You can't even hug skinny people easily. They're difficult to get ahold of. My whole life I thought I wanted to be with skinny chicks, but as soon as I was with a girl "with a little extra" so to speak, I can never go back. Of course, I'm skinny as hell. I can definitely explain the appeal there, though. I sweat less, therefore I don't develop body odor as fast. I can squeeze through tight spaces. I can get by people without them noticing. I can find a hiding spot at a moment's notice. I have visible abs, so at certain angles I look muscular. So yeah, there's that.

That was a beautiful post, and I wish more women (and guys, I suppose) could read it.

I'm more along the lines of getting a girl who looks "healthy/bordering either way". She's a girl? She has a pretty face? Her personality is awesome? Sign me up. I mean, I'm not gonna date a fat girl or an incredibly thin girl because that doesn't attract me but a "normal" weight definitely gets me going.

Not into really skinny women. Just doesn't look good. Somewhat skinny is okay, but I don't want to be seeing bones. If your waist is thinner than your head, there's a problem.

You know... thank you for the responces but... no one has actually answered the question of why.

Like "I like a size 000 woman over a size 8 beause _____"
or
"I like to __________ and I can't do that with anyone bigger"
I don't think this place is R+. But anyway...

It represents youth. It's not simply the skinnyness that makes them attractive. It's their facial features, it's their attitude and their personality, perhaps their fashion and the way they present themselves. Mostly it has to do with society.

If you want to dig deeper it's probably a natural instinct due to the fact males have typically evolved wanting to find someone to protect. While skinnier woman would typically need the most protecting.
