Whats so special about snow maps?

So i was watchin xplay and they were talkin about Killzone 3 and they said that thay were excited about the addition of a snow map to the game. They also said that they have the best snow(wtf). So i wanna know whats the big deal with snow maps. Every game has them and i thought that it was just another map, what do you think.

I guess they're really hard to make right. I don't know. I always just thought of them as one of the dozen or so generic backdrops you start out with when you don't have a clear idea of what you want the map to be.

I would've guessed Among Thieves had the best snow. As for the maps, I don't care as long as I get to throw snowballs and build snowmen.
Sadly this hasn't happened except in SSX, which is awesome!

You ever seen red snow? Fun stuff. I don't really get it, either. It usually means "Prepare for the easy mission" because you usually have infrared or something, and the enemies don't. Or nobody can see anything, and you hope you don't walk right into someone.

I dislike snow maps. They are boring, monotonous and hurt my eyes. It's one of the reasons I don't praise Icewind Dale games as much as they deserve...

Im not sure.
I think its because its not done as much, so its different.

I personally think Snow Environments would be Awesome for Survival Horror Games.

Think about it, sure you can get attacked by something in the dark.
But your all alone, in the cold trying to make it to some kind of shelter, slowly dying from the cold your body is beginning to shut down, and then your attacked.

They are supposed to show off your awesome new high def tv with its super amazing 67,000,000,000:1 contrast ratio! What better to show the true power of your high def tv than a screen of total white?

As far as snow maps I think gears of war 2s avalanche map was interesting,
but I don't see whats special about regular snow maps that don't try to kill you with the snow.=/

There's nothing special about them, it's just either:

A) They aren't done much, so they like to play them up as being unique and "innovative" or something stupid like that.

B) They can talk up their "uber 1337 sn0w PHYSX!".

KZ3 just looks like KZ2 to me. Maybe because is everyone is seeing the same old industrial dusty generic environment in KZ2 that snow just blew them away!

Snow is white, nice, pretty and fluffy. It makes people think of happy times, like when Santa comes down the chimney to give you presents. Snow means friendly snowball fights, snow men, snow angels, and the ever so cute snow leopards come out to play.

Then you start shooting the hell out of the red team and teabag their corpses.

I don't know. I just like the juxtaposition of all the happy feelings of snow combined with explosive gunplay. Besides, Shadow Moses was awesome in Metal Gear Solid.

Because snow is considered to be quiet pretty and people like pretty games. Maybe its because in most places it doesn't snow very often I dunno.
