Right now, I've got to say that I am in love with BlazBlue.

But best game overall? That honor goes to the classic Street Fighter 2. It was balanced, simple, and yet elegant in it's delivery. Furthermore, there so many fun memories attached to it!

I remember playing it in the arcades and then going home just to play it on my SNES to sharpen my skills.

Ah....those were days of magic.
BlazBlue?
That's part of the Guilty Gear series, is it not?
Close. Its made by the same guys.
Oh ok... I thought I read somewhere it was set in the same universe? Oh well.

Spoken by somebody who has never had a Bison vs. Zangief match against a Zangief that knows what to do. That's an almost impossible match for Bison.
No fighting game is perfectly balanced, but I've always been a Tekken person and I had the most fun on Tekken tag. King/A.King team FTW!

Guilty Gear X-2 and/or Soul Calibur 4 ... But i guess my very first fighting game was Tekken 2 & 3 so it deserves a place here too, even though I don't like fighting games very much.

DOA4

The reason the DOA games are so good is because they feature a counter system. (A good one). This allows the person to cause damage to someone who repeatedly does the same move to you OVER and OVER and OVER again.
I fin the game very challenging, but also very fun.

I guess if I had to judge it by games I played the most and that sucked away the most time in my life that I could have used to make myself a better person, it's probably a three-way tie between Tekken 2-3 and Street Fighter Alpha 3. I think what I loved most about those games (the console versions anyways) were all the various gametypes. I remembered I loved team fighting and survival modes the best, but the latter may have been the result of having a Shin Akuma character that was basically unbeatable by the computer (no I wasn't that skilled I just knew their attack patterns and was good at throwing fireballs.)

That's why I like it too. It's a game that you really can't do well at just by mashing buttons like you can sometimes in the likes of Soul Calibur and Tekken. You've got to know your opponent and counter what they throw at you.

I have the guy who is ranked 1st in Britain on my friends list and he takes this too far though. He even knows the frame rates of each move in the game. It's nearly impossible to beat him.

Budokai 3, it's great, it has some ridiculously long combo's if you're prepared to learn the cancelling system, it has awesome moves and it's the kind of game that's easy to pick up and play but you can't button mash to win.

Failing that I also like Tekken 5 and Tekken Tag.

Super Smash Bros. original, because I can't remember seven-button combos to save my life. And it's just fun.

Soul Calibur 2
The first Soul Calibur was actually a bit better balanced, in my opinion.
I haven't played the first one yet. Have been meaning to, but I haven't gotten around to it.

Oh man do I ever have to play that game. I really need a PSP to catch up on a lot of sequels that I missed. Like Tactics and Disgaea.
