I hate books and consider the lot to be in lack of logic (I'll be honest, when I see a book claiming that Abraham Lincoln was a vampire hunter,I die a lot)but I loved Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow. The enemy gate is down.

I haven't read that many Sci-Fi books. But yesterday I finished "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" by Philip K Dick. It was very good.

The Ender's Game series. Some other book got the better of me at some point in Children of the Mind, but I still got the guts of the series.

Oh man, so many. Here's the Sci-Fi:
Dune by: Frank Herbert
World War Z by: Max Brooks (Ridiculously awesome.)
The Stand by: Stephen King
Ender's Game by: Orson Scott Card (If you haven't read this book, shame on you.)
1984 by: George Orwell
Little Brother by: Cory Doctorow
EDIT: Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by: Douglas Adams

Here's the Fantasy:
The Dark Tower Series by: Stephen King (It's just so fucking awesome....)
Lord of the Rings by: JRR Tolkien (more shame on you if you haven't read these either)
The Inheritance Trilogy by: Christopher Paolini
EDIT: The Abhorsen series by: Garth Nix
Youth in Revolt by: C.D. Payne (It's technically a "realistic fiction", but nothing in this book could ever happen, so I consider it fantasy. (This is a joke. This book sucks.))
This is a list with plenty of my favorites; overall I'd go with Dune. I think Michael Crichton also deserves a mention for The Andromeda Strain, though it's more thriller than sci-fi.

Naughts & Crosses. While not seeming like sci-fi, it's set in a dystopia alternative reality time locked somewhere between 1949-1967, but set now, in which black people are the world rulers, treating the white as the black people in 1949-67. It's also a romance.

Star Wars: Death Troopers. For once it's not about any jedis, and you have zombie stormtroopers. I mean sure, zombies may be a bit much lately, but honestly: Zombie Stormtroopers. They can't aim for crap, but there's so many of them and now they're hungry for flesh.

Halo Series (I have read all but the newest one about the old race that invented the flood), the games may not be amazing, but the books are actually all well done. Especially Contact Harvest was my favorite of the entire series. And that's saying something when you have Reach and First Strike to choose from.

StarCraft books, at least the Terran ones I've read. Ghost was horribly depressing and I somewhat regret reading it, but still an interesting read. Heaven's Devils is my favorite about Jim Raynor when he was younger and full of life. Another decent one is I, Mengsk. Shows the downfall of an otherwise amazing Mengsk could have been to bring about a new era of peace for the ravaged StarCraft legacy.

Gears of War books as well. They're for the most part slow paced and allows a view into civilian life and the depressing fact of how people are living in the world.

Of course I'm sure many have already listed Starship Troopers, Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Fahrenheit 451 and the like, so I don't really have to explain those. Anyways, you can't go wrong. Just go read the first chapter or so of each book that people list here and see if it catches your eye. I know some online services allow you to read a chapter or two online. Go expand your knowledge and have fun!

Timeline by Micheal Crichton was a good book. He was the same guy who wrote Jurassic Park. Prey and Contest were also good ones by him.
