Whats the appeal of playing console over a PC? Reason for not playing a console is that while always upgrading, I never downgrade. *Picks up shield*

Uuuh.. No? I tried to get KotOR work on my Win 7 but it crashed all the time, and KotOR isin't even an oldgame. I say the compatibility issues with operatingsystems are more frequent than in consoles. Unless you want to play something really old, where you mostlikely have to emulate and then its probably already up on XBLA or PSN.

OT: Piracy mayby? Also mods, Oblivion was rather bland without mods. I don't really know, I have both Xbox and a PC. Also some games just can't be play1ed on a controller (RTS), even dragon age is sucky on a controller.

In my book its pretty straight forward, if you want an FPS or RTS, get a PC, if you want a platformer, racing game or fighting game (or console exclusive), then get a console. RPG I would struggle to say is better on either one, same with puzzle, and some people would argue that FPS is better on console, I don't see how they think this, a mouse + wasd will always give more control than you can get from two joysticks. Other than that, I suppose a TV vs. a computer screen, may play a factor, sitting closer ect.

I find a lot of games eaiser to play on the pc. Played command & conquer 3 and Red alert on xbox 360. hated it, sold them and got them for pc. Im doing things i never thought i could do, like beat the damn game! ha ha

Steam, Impulse, GOG.com. (fair priced and better selection than what Xbox or PSN offers)

If you know a bit of code you can make any game compatible with any pc. some harder than others but most general run okay.

and mostly i grew up on it. I suck at shooters in general but on PC im at least in a good position to get good if i keep at the game where as Console ill never get ahead.

Some of the reasons why I prefer to play the PC.

* I've played in the PC my whole life.
* I'm going to buy a computer anyway, so why not buy a gaming computer instead of a console + a non-gaming computer?
* A mouse + keyboard
* The PC exclusive games/game genres
* Backward compatibility. You can play pretty much all the PC games ever created if you know how.
* Mods
* The community
* Fan made patches/fixes to games
* Price on games
* Possibility to upgrade instead of buying a completely new console.

I don't have to buy a new machine every few years, merely upgrade the one I have
I can build my own machine
It's reliable
Backwards compatibility with older titles is guaranteed
I can do way more with a PC than I can a console
Multiplayer is free
I have games like Garry's Mod and Minecraft
Driving/flying sims run better
More mods!
Oh and I can still use console controllers if I want. I have a 360 pad for driving/flying centric games
You forgot the ability to modify game files to add user content or fix bugs. That's a pretty important part.

- Mouse and keyboard. (Just my preference, please nobody panic.)

- Steam. Can you download the full version of Bulletstorm onto your 360?

- The indie market. Somewhat abated by XBLA and PSN, but not much. To get your indie game on console, you need the approval of the console maker. Not so with PC. (I feel genuinely sorry for all those people who can't play Amnesia.)

- Dedicated servers. (Although I'm not sure why consoles don't have them too.)

- Graphics. If you care about that sort of stuff.

- RTSs and MMOs. If you care about that sort of stuff. (I don't.)

- Mods. Once again, if you care for that stuff.

- Cheaper games. I have no idea why this is the case. Here in Australia the difference is about $30.

- No XBL fees.

- Less loadmouthed 12-year-olds with headsets. Note I said "less", not "none".

So there. Now I'm outa here before the inevitable flame war gets going.

PS. Yes, there are downsides as well. Compatibility, cost, DRM etc. I know. Do I ever know.
Mouse and keyboard. - They could do this on a console and I am actually surprised they don't port RTS games like StarCraft 2 with full mouse and keyboard support since the console already supports them for the browser.

Steam. Coming to the PS3 along with Portal 2.

The indie market. Yeah, Amnesia is the only modern PC game I want to play, so I appreciate your sympathy.

Dedicated servers. Some games do have them.

Graphics. As long as the game looks ok, I don't really care if it looks better on something else.

RTSs and MMOs. Yeah, they could do this on a console, but I'm not sure if I would buy any...unless it's Heroes Of Might And Magic or Disciples. :p

Mods. No argument here. :p

Cheaper games.. This obvious (at least in the case of the PS3) since the game is on Bluray...at least I HOPE that's why they are more expensive. But 30$? Seriously? That's just retarded.

- No XBL fees. There aren't any on PS3 either. :p

- Less loadmouthed 12-year-olds with headsets. Again, applies to the PS3.

PC's biggest disadvantage is that it's much harder to make a AAA title on it rather than on a console, I know it sounds strange but I know this for a fact (so please don't start a stupid flame war, people) and thus you get less exclusive AAA titles and usually more buggy. I've been a PC gamer for a long time, but when I switched to the consoles, I didn't look back. Still agree on the graphics being better on PC tough.

I think it would be excellent if people who did this got together to form communities and share their modified files with one another... but maybe I'm just a crazed anarchist like Brad Wardell.

They kind of do already. I remember the WarCraft 3 workshop site, had a ton of awesome content there.

Waaaaaaaaaaaay better graphics, mods are AWESOME, and the ability to customize my controls. Also, games like Dragon Age play much better on the PC.

I could go over a thousand reasons... but I'll simply list one that doesn't seem to have come out that much:

Online play.

On a console, a game will only have people playing it within the first few months until that new Call of Duty game comes out... in other words... you're shit out of luck if there's this one game you like that's over a year old.

Meanwhile, on PC... An online gaming community will last over a decade... with ranges within thousands of players to millions. Hell... I just picked a random game off my shelf and found a group of players that made their own server handling system since the original ones have shutdown about 7 years ago.

It's all about community to me.

...and whatever else those guys mentioned!

Well, the easy answer is flexibility. But ultimately, if you know what you're doing, there is no reason to ever pick a console over a PC (aside from platform exclusive titles). Even the common claim that PCs cost much more is easily invalidated by putting together your own. The only thing consoles have going for them are simplicity.

I think that Zero punctuation said it best, that if you feed people paste then you shouldn't be surprised that is all they want to eat. "What's the big deal about PC games?" ... /facepalm

With me it's modability. PC games are more easily modded to enhance the experience of a game. Oblivion, Falout and even Dragon Age were all made better by using mods.

Usually I go through the game once without them, then on a second playthough I tend to see just how much I can change.

Let´s not forget that you can easily use your television as your computer screen and use a gamepad if you want to experience the console thing.
