Civ 5. I cant drop it for a second. actually im writing this from my steam browser while i wait for a friend to finish his turn. gotta go... (On his 36th hour)Wow. Cant imagine doing it on marathon.

Wait, that isnt a pageturner. Unless wanting to know what happends next in your own empires story counts :)

Warcraft 3, one of the few games where you cheat to see cutscenes.

It's been awhile since a game truly enthralled me. The last ones to really draw me in were Devil May Cry 3 and Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.

Besides both Mass Effects, I really got into BioShock, The Orange Box, and Fable 2. All of them should be cheap now, and with Fable 3 coming up, I'm getting back into Fable 2. (I'm really excited for numero three)

Xenosaga 3. Had to know how it ended. One of the only games I've ever played straight through w/o playing something else in the middle.

The only thing I found other than the Mass Effects (2 slightly more so than 1), was Heavy Rain. It's so emotionally engaging, though unlike the Mass Effects, it's definitely not something I could play through a second time.

no one will ever believe this or in fact think i'm sane afterwards but the game that i just couldn't get enough of was Mechwarrior mercenaries. i finished it and i had such a big void to fill... damn i love massive robots with guns... but not transformers... in fact nothing really has covered the gaping maw that that game left...

shame they haven't brought out another one... i loved that series and the mechcommander series, they were both really well made...

Man I'm old....

Planescape Torment is the pinnacle of story based gameplay. The feeling of freedom while still going down an intricately laid path.

Start Control 2 for the thousands of pages of interesting and in character alien dialog. The Mass Effect story is about the size of half of a quadrant of Star Control 2.

Ultima V. That is all.

Silent Hill 2 was pretty fitting for this, but my most recent is Penumbra. I haven't gotten Black Plague yet, BUT I MUST KNOW WHAT HAPPENS>

even though I've been ninjaed.. Mafia 2!!! I played straight through this game with no stopping and felt sad that it was over. The only reason I don't play it much anymore is because of the fail free-roam and I was going to get jimmy's DLC but I don't want to pay an extra $10 so... ya sad it's over and also AC games have a great story

I'd have to say Bioshock, followed by Batman: Arkham Asylum.

I think with both games though it was the fact that I had owned them for so long without really getting in to them. When I finally sat down for a prolonged play I realised what I had been missing out on.

But they really do have that 'pageturner' effect you're talking about. The games are self-contained within one giant area, but effectively broken up into levels. And the more I played both, upgrading my character and having the story progress, the more I would think 'I'll just do this one section and I'm done for the night'. Then repeat the same thought 5 or 6 times. I'm usually pretty bad for completing games, but I'm sure both of these rank as my top 2 quickest completed games. I even started Batman on the hardest difficulty the day I completed it on normal.
