The best game since Spyro The Dragon.
We all know that's the best game of all time and I'm not remotely blinded by nostalgia.

Most amount of money lost since the XBox.

The slowest elevators since Mass Effect.

Largest number of kiwis since The New Zealand Story.

Cooking Mama: Sliced Bread edition.

Oh. You meant something else.

Okay, Mario Bros. for the NES.

My suggestions;

- For hand held and general gaming: Best thing since Tetris!

- For third person shooters and stealth games: Best thing since MGS! (Metal Gear Solid, the one on the PlayStation)

- For FPS RPGs: Best thing since Deus Ex!

- For adventure games: Best thing since Zelda: Link's Awakening! (It was on Gameboy)

What do you think?

Best feature since the jump button.

That's the one that seems to carry the most weight for me, 'cause I love to jump.
I'm guessing you didn't care for Gears of War?
I quite liked Gears, actually. Once I got over my aversion to its lack of colors and jump buttons, I found the Co-Op mode to be pretty fun.

Don't get me wrong, I really do love to jump... But it's not a make or break for me. I still play Zelda, after all.

I'm assuming we're referring to the archetypes of certain genres. If that's the case...

Contra is the archetype of run-and-gun games
Mario is the archetype of platformers
Halo is the archetype of modern first-person shooters
Grand Theft Auto is the archetype of sandbox games
World of Warcraft the new archetype of MMORPG's (the previous one being Everquest)
I would say go for all except for Halo,

Quake, Doom, Wolf3D, Unreal Tournament all have higher fanbases, more innovation and a longer history than Halo.

Duke Nukem, son.

That, and Quake and Doom, as far as FPS games go. Though when most people think of classic games, those would probably come to mind.

Jumpman, Pong, Galaga, Pac-Man, and Frogger. These being classic arcade games didn't spawn much as far as a series goes (Jumpman exempt), but their impact on the industry in itself is larger than the Tarrasque.
