I quite like these forums here (far better than b.net) but I'm worried that no one will take me seriously with me join date late 2012. And is there any respect for opinions? Some forums opinions = trolling.

Hardly anyone cares about join date if the content of your post is solid.

Opinions are generally accepted unless you're too far from the norm, in which case be prepared to explain yourself very thoroughly.

Welcome to the site.

Join date only matters if you're winning an argument.

On that note, welcome to the site. Visit R&P for a quick gut punch to your forum health bar, stay out of the basement, and have fun!

Thanks, I'm all ready quite liking this forum, as opposed to some I tried to join but never got into. I belive we can have a good discussion without needless debate, for example: I like this game because of x and z but I don't like y too much and someone else can say I like x but z could do with some work. And someone else can state their opinion and it's not a debate and more discussion of what you both think.

OK...Satan. I'm not sure if the lord of hell liking the forums is a good or a bad thing, though :p

I wouldn't worry too much - nobody would take you seriously anyway. At least in offtopic. At least in some threads. The rest of the time, I've not seen join date elitism.

Now, now - this is only the case if you disagree with somebody or they disagree with you. I wish I was entirely joking. It happens, but thankfully, calling people "trolls" is generally against the forum policy.

Nobody cares about your join date so long as your posts are good, everybody's got to join at some point.

And most opinions are accepted (if not necessarily agreed with) if you explain why you have that opinion.

Welcome TO THE WORLD OF TOMORROW! to The Escapist!

[sub]And now I realise I've basically said what Marter has said.[/sub]

Oh, as something extra, just so you recognise the difference in username colour, blue = mod, gold = staff and red = person working in games industry (I believe). And italics is content creator as well, although they are not often seen outside of when they publish their content, Miracle Of Sound, is probably the most prominent.

And get used to an Okami avatar. You may see that a lot. Either followed or preceded by a cat.

Oh and finally, text written in magenta or pink is apparently sarcasm.

And finally, finally, if anything goes wrong. BLAME KROSS

Nah. Post count matters more than join date, but both are fairly trivial (at least imo. I know some users take it very seriously....).

Welcome to the Escapist!!

Obligatory Welcome Wagon:

Avoid R&P
Beware the Red Button
Stay out of the Basement
post ponies Don't post ponies

And last, but not least: when in doubt, blame Kross.

Follow these rules, and you'll fit in fine here :D

But seriously, I'll you really need to avoid is being a troll/complete jerk. Also, avoid low content posts.

Stick around a little, and you'll learn the ropes of the community.

Just curious, what's the red button?

Join date only matters when you just joined a week or ago and are already at 2k posts. Well it matters to me anyway.

DOn't worry about it too much though, so long as your posts are knowledgeable and aren't total bullshit you'll do just fine. Don't beleive the bullshit people spout about the Religion and Politics section, we like new people to come around, so long as they aren't just trolling and are able to argue their point well. We aren't bad people, I promise.

Red button:

Some users will try to get new guys to push it, kinda as a rite of passage.

I try to warn people against pushing it, but honestly don't try too hard...

Push it if you want...

Lol, this is an attention seeking thread. We don't take kindly to attention seeking threads 'round here. We want mental stimulation and intriguing topics.

Personally, I'd like to talk Buddhism, whatcha got?

I'm really tempted, is it a shock sight or porn or anything? There are others in the room right now so is it NSFW?

It's completely safe for work. Porn is against the rules on the Escapist.

You'll either laugh or scream in frustration....

I await your choice :D

I think Buddhism is better than most religions because they are not in your face. I am fine with religon as long as they don't sit shove it in my face with nonsense. I never hear any Buddhism "advertising" so it's fine by me. I also don't hear about them causing a ruckas about nonsense.

My only suggestion is that you would maybe stay away from the political forums if you not into that sort of thing. If your not somewhere on the left, you are probably not going to like a lot of what your going to read.

If you want to learn more about the lefts point of view, then go ahead. There are a lot of smart people on this website. That being said, there are a decent amount of "interesting" folk here too, so keep that in mind.

As far as people taking you seriously, as long as you sound competent and use the bare minimum of grammar, you should be fine. This site holds some of the nicest users I've seen in the gaming, off-topic, and forum game forums.

I agree with your points and opinion. I also dislike when a religion uses fear to motivate. We're not here to live in fear. I'm a poet and I kinda know it. Plus, common sense religions are better than fairy tales.

Have fun, stay out of the basement, blah blah blah.

Just don't be a dick, and do not ever call out a troll being troll and you'll be fine.
