I quite like these forums here (far better than b.net) but I'm worried that no one will take me seriously with me join date late 2012. And is there any respect for opinions? Some forums opinions = trolling.
do you like Bioware and Mass Effect?

best to avoid all discussion in that area to save your sanity

Hello, Satan. most of us do not believe in you, therefore you dont exist and no you cant get to be real till 21st.
The power of christ compels you!

ok now that we got that joke out of the way, community here is great, best one i've ever seen actually. most of us are liberal minded but we have different opinion people too. its a good place to discuss pretty much anything and the repolies arent your typical trolling most of the time.

Welcome to The Escapist!

1. DO read the forum guidelines and read them carefully--there are infractions (such as posting nudity) which will get you banned in the blink of an eye.

2. Never call anyone 'troll', even in obvious jest--it's a taboo word. Literally.

3. The Escapist survives through advertising--as with 'troll' the word 'Adblock' is taboo. If you admit to using it (but fail to clarify "Oh, I, um, NEVER use it when I'm on this site--I always turn it off when I'm here" then you'll receive a warning.

4. How not to get banned [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.391544-How-not-to-get-banned#15763320] is a handy thread for anyone to read if you're looking for pointers on how to--as its title says--avoid being banned. The list on the OP was built as the thread discussion went on. I suggest looking into it in addition to the guidelines because the discussions--including comments and clarifications directly made by Moderators--are enlightening. And often funny.

5. Ditto what the others said about being new here.

6. Stay out of the basement.

7. Those who know won't explain "why", "where", "what", or "Gods!!! We're all doomed!!!" about the basement. You'll have to discover the location truth for yourself.[footnote]Vault101 once went there...she's mad, you know. Oh, yes! She's quite mad.[/footnote]

8. Everybody eventually gets a Low Content Warning. It's kinda like a rite of passage.

EDIT: Feel free to answer any and everyone's posts. There's no maximum times etc limiting you. Also it helps posters avoid feeling like late night radio jockeys who spend their careers wondering if anyone's actually listening.

Plus the Escapist User Guide to Posting Commands [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.198114-Escapist-User-Guide-to-Posting-Commands] thread will give you the site's basics for posting images, links, etc.

I routinely get annoyed, flummoxed and generally angry about stuff I read here.

And yet I come back.

Very tribal in opinion and excessively passive aggressive. It makes for very little to discuss as nearly everyone here already agrees with everyone else so you end up with a lot of repeat threads and threads which require absolutely no intellectual intercourse.

This is a decent community really. The people here seem pretty cool and mature for the most part and usually have interesting points to make.

Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there wondering, fearing, doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before.

OT: The community is a bit of a mixed bag. Sometimes good, sometimes... Well, let's just say not so good. Still, there must be a reason I stayed around here long enough to post as much as I have, right? XD

As God-Emperor of these forums, it is my privilege to welcome you.
The community here is good. We have a few too many militant Valve fanboys, and the mods aren't as strict as they were back in my day, but for the most part we're a good lot.
Besides, my presence more than makes up for all the bad.
Some ground rules:
Try not to be a jerk.
Use the search bar when making threads. There is no greater sin than repeating a thread I already made.
Don't bump your own threads just to get them attention. Only post if you have something to say.
Don't make low content posts. (Making a one-word post then adding something along the lines of "To avoid low-content mod-wrath" at the end is still low-content.)
If you're not sure if posting something is within these rules, err on the side of caution, and don't. Take a step back, and post something within these rules.

Necros are perfectly fine. It's repeats we have to worry about.

^Pretty much sums up this place.

Oh and everyone knows post count is far more important than join date.
Post count is meaningless.
With forum games, and user groups, anyone can get a high post count.
Join date is immutable.

People are pretty cool here. We skew towards the left politically, and religiously we have a lot of atheists, but there are only a few who are particularly loud or obnoxious about it.

Join date doesn't matter as much as interesting posts, being friendly, funny if you can. Basically, don't be a dick, and we shall welcome you!

Welcome.

Join date doesn't matter, why should it? Any soul trapped on here is... good.

When it's off-topic, it goes into the off-topic bin. You got that figured out already, it seems.

There's game-related stuff. It's mostly about games. Sometimes it's religious and political dog poop cream in a yeasty scab-encrusted donut that's just thinly covered in seemingly game-related sugar coating.

Usually, blood only flows in the legendary R&P dark corners. That's where the less fun stuff of religion & politics goes. It's pretty much like a free-for-all 4chan with rules. And some manners. And ye mighty ban-hammer. Some people are attracted to the ban-hammer like insects are to lightbulbs and open flames. Everyone has a fair chance of making a mess and getting well spanked for it.

Enjoy.

Oh, there's also a certain randomness going on. You might like that. I hope you do.
