Golden Axe

As it's incredibly short (even for Mega Drive standards), I love having a playthrough of it once in a while. It's still great fun for me, and was probably the first videogame I ever liked.

I don't really have any games that I still play. I tend to play something through and then, beyond a certain point I just stop. The most enduring game I've ever played is Morrowind, I put insane amounts of time into it and thanks to it, I'm always going to know unhealthy amounts of Tamriellic lore :p

Everytime I go home I play the Donkey Kong Country trilogy and can never get bored by any part of those games.

Resident Evil 2 I also play often.

If we're talking the oldest game we've played but still love and would play again if we don't still have it...

Robinson's Requiem on the Atari STe and Amiga console computers. That and Toonstruck.

If we're talking games we still own a copy of, Monkey Island. I had it on the Atari STe, but now I have a PC copy since I no longer have said Atari STe

Well I don't have my ZX Spectrum anymore, but I still play the likes of Doom, Monkey Island and the '89 TMNT arcade game thanks to XBL. And since Sega released their Ultimate Collection myself and friends still regularly play games of Golden Axe and Streets of Rage.

EDIT - Oh, and I recently bought an old copy of Blade of Destiny, but haven't gotten round to putting any serious game time back into that golden oldie yet.

I'm actually considering buying Robinson's Requiem on GOG.com. The concept just sounds so awesome that I'm wondering if I might actually be able to stomach the terrible voxel graphics (yeah, this was before developers realized that using voxel engines for anything other than a flight sim or other genres where the camera is far, far away from the ground is a bad idea), not to mention the abysmally bad French FMV sequences they added to the PC CD ROM version which I assume the GOG version is based on.

So yeah... would you still recommend RR in this day and age? Or is it mainly rose-tinted glasses (and pupils widened by a virtual atropine injection) that keep you coming back?

Baldur's Gate 2. It was my first proper RPG, and in between games of Mass Effect 3 I'm still playing it now, and loving it, such a rich, detailed world, with the perfect challenge.

Several I still go back to. Masters of Orion 2, Chrono Cross, Secret of Mana, FF8, Parasite Eve 1. All still hold up.

OMG! Holy shi... Thank you so much! I didn't know you could still get the game! I was too young to understand the concept when I first got it (come off... I was only 9 at the time), and I didn't even know there was a sequel too!

I'll admit, it might just be rose-tinted glasses because I played it a lot as a kid but if you like games that force you to think and act, and like adventure/survival games, you will LOVE this game. It's fantastic.
Word of advice though... learn what things do before you use them and DON'T eat the Snow White pears... They're called that for a reason >.>

Demon's Crest for the SNES.
I have a little tradition in wich I beat this game once a year. The game itself is not hard, but the secret final boss is insanely difficult and therefore very satisfying to beat.

This probably annoys me most about the escapist. Whenever a large title is launched, typically an RPG, the Gaming Discussion is filled with threads for that game.

But we're not here to discuss that. What's your first gaming love? For me, it was Ratchet and Clank Up Your Arsenal. Ratchet and Clank was the first first series I played and I loved the series to no end.

Until my PS2 broke on me, I played Up Your Arsenal and Deadlocked all the time. With friends, going through the campaign, it was so much fun for me. If PS3 would play the games on something higher than 10 FPS, I'd play them again. I was one of the few to get a backwards compatible PS3, but it plays only my Ratchet and Clank games on the lowest frame rate possible.

I love the humor of the game, I love combat, I love the gadgets, the characters, I just love the series in whole.
A new PS2 slim (controller and memory card included, no less) is only $100 USD on Amazon [http://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-2-Console-Slim-Black/dp/B000TLU67W]. Easy fix for your frame rate problem.

OT: I'd have to say that the first game I ever truly loved is a three-way tie between Ratchet and Clank, Kingdom Hearts, or R-Type Final, all three of which I got with my PS2 for Christmas 2003. Ratchet and Clank had a mix of slapstick and crude humor, along with all the addictive gunplay and platforming that the series is known for. Kingdom Hearts was my first RPG, and ultimately introduced me to Final Fantasy, my favorite series of all-time. R-Type Final was hard as balls and is still the most content-heavy shoot 'em up I've ever played, and it's still my favorite within the genre. I can't ever decide between those three.

Super Mario Bros although I never owned the NES (just borrowed it long term from a friend for a few weeks at a time) I still play it as part of super Mario all stars on the SNES however if I still had my C64 I would be playing Bubble Bobble at least once a year (although Super Mario is older I played Bubble Bobble first).

Dammit I want to play duck hunt now :( havent played that since the 80s.

Most of my first games were on various consoles I don't have anymore, unfortunately. Probably the oldest one I still play is Rome: Total War, because of the amazing modding community.
