Hyperdimension Neptunia, once I can get hold of the DLC for it. That is if the PSN Store is back up by I get home from uni for the summer mid-May. I'm hopeful it will be...
I've had my eye on that game for a while now, is it worth getting?
OT: Probably Dark Mist, a downloadable dungeon-crawler. Quite good fun and not a bad price.
Honestly.. I'm going to say don't bother getting Hyperdimension Neptunia, unless you can get it really cheap anyway. The gameplay is average, and very monotonous. The dungeons are reused to death, and that is where the meat of the game is. Story isn't particularly amazing either. The best thing about it is the jokes they throw about the game industry, but I personally don't think it's enough to warrent paying £40/$60. I'd recommend the new Ar Tonelico, if you're wanting a new NIS jrpg.
Funnily enough, the last time I read reviews for those, Neptunia actually came out better. My main concern for Ar Tonelico is that what subtlety was left in the series (a lot of people complained that there was none in Metafalica, although I don't recall ever having a problem with it) has been smacked round the head a few times with a sledgehammer and then dropped off a cliff. I know about the aspects of that in the battle system (good job I won't be playing it in a room where there's likely to be other people :S), but that's about it. I kinda avoided looking to deeply into it to avoid too many spoilers.
Basically, are my worries actually relevant or not?
I'm not going to lie, it gets pretty daft seeing the heroines strip in the middle of combat, or even in the middle of cutscenes sometimes. Hell, even the male characters strip in combat too, they really went all out with the stripping. Other than that it's mainly occasional innuendos in the speech. I can't really compare it to how bad it was in the earlier games, as I haven't played them, but if you can ignore the stripping I don't think it's too bad.
I have said before that I'm not a massive fan of Ar Tonelico Qoga, however that largely came down to not liking the heroines that much(Personal thing, the heroines themselves have quite a bit of character development and they aren't bad characters, I've just never liked the archetypes they represent). I think it could still be a very enjoyable game if you like the heroines and can ignore the stripping, as the story is still quite good, and overall the gameplay is fun. I'd certainly recommend it over Neptunia anyway, has far more depth, a better story, better characters and overall just more enjoyable, even despite stupid fanservice.
