For me that would be Mirror's Edge.

I can see why most people would like it. It's very pretty and frankly there aren't very many other games out there like it.

Unfortunately, I found myself not enjoying the game at all. Most of my experience the game involved getting chased by the cops, being unsure of where I was supposed to go, and dying over and over again.

From what I could tell from the loading screens, the combat system was supposed to be a bit more sophisticated and handy for getting out of tight situations. Unfortunately, I could never get it to work right and I found myself either shooting my way through and/or running away.

By the time the game was over, I took it out, sent it back to GameStop, and never had anything to do with it again.

Spider-Man 2. I absolutely adored that game when I was younger, I just didn't realize how much younger. I had no idea that I hadn't played the game since 2006. I just replayed it a while ago. It is ass. Just donkey ass. The web-swinging is still good, I guess, but nothing else. NOTHING. I played Web of Shadows right after that and fell in love with it. A few problems to be sure, but better in almost every way.

I don't know if I should be allowed to hate on Oblivion for this, but I hate Oblivion. Why? Walking. It felt like I was playing a walking-through-tar simulator. In a game where you'll be walking 90% of the time(that's most games actually), I think it's pretty important for it not to annoy the shit out of me. Still haven't tried Skyrim, waiting for a good sale on the Legendary Edition.

To be frank, I'm pretty sick of all the "[Blank] you hate that everyone loves!" threads. We get them every few weeks, and they always turn into pissing matches.

Spider-Man 2 which is supposed to be super brilliant.
Eh, Spider-Man 2 is a pretty shite game, really. It's just that it did web-swinging around an open-world city so well that it completely ruined the expectations of every Spider-Man game that followed it.

OT:
To not be a downer on the entire thread, the Infinity Engine CRPGs and all of Bethesda's games/Fallout New Vegas, sans Skyrim. But not hate. See the above video for why.

I just can't find myself enjoying any of them. Partly because the control and combat is so clunky and awkward for the style of games they were, which kept me from enjoying any of the writing or world-building.

Oh, I guess I could kinda put Sonic Adventure 2. Apparently it's controversial that I think the structuring of Sonic Aventure is vastly superior to that of Adventure 2, and that while Big and Amy are admittedly pretty terrible and E-102 could've been better, racing Sonic is still a more interesting level structure than riding around in a transforming plane through linear levels and the treasure hunting in SA2 was somehow infinitely worse than Adventure.

The only games I'd say I feel anything approaching "hate" for are Pokemon Black/White and Final Fantasy XIII, and those are both rather split in the audience response.

Hate isn't the right word. Noone here actually hates games, even if they'll try and say they do as some sort of appeal to emotion. Tell you who hates games: activists like Jack Thompson, certain figures in the US Republican party, UK Tabloids such as the Daily Mail, people fearful of them because they're too old to understand them. Basically, non-gamers. Gamers don't hate games.

You mean those games that are generally approved of that I happen to dislike for whatever reason. That's still pretty much flamebait, but whatever.

I don't think much of Half Life 2; to me it was only marginally better than Doom 3, in that it was a technical wankathon with little to offer in terms of gameplay innovations.

I've never liked 3D Platformers such as Mario 64. I feel the viewpoint and controls are inferior to those in 2D Platformers, to such an extent that most in the genre shy away from actual platforming and become this collection of mini-games.

I've not liked any Final Fantasy after 7. I disliked 8 so much that I never got round to playing 9, though I've heard such good things about that one that I probably should play it at some point. But for me the main one to point to is 10. People call 13 a corridor simulator, yet they still rave about 10. I don't get it. 10 had so many warning signs of where the series was headed.

Deus Ex Human Revolution didn't really understand what the big deal was, I couldn't force myself to finish the game it just didn't interest me in the slightest.

The big one for me is Heavy Rain. I'm firmly convinced that it belongs alongside Aliens: Colonial Marines and Ride to Hell: Retribution in this generation's Hall of Buggy, Piss-Dribbling Shame. Absolutely nothing about Heavy Rain works. The story is atrocious, the characters are either completely unlikeable or have no stand-out qualities whatsoever, what little gameplay exists is plagued by every horrible design decision you can imagine, the game is fucking ugly from a graphical standpoint, and yet, somehow, millions of people called it an "emotional experience". The only emotion elicited in me by Heavy Rain was frustration that David Cage continues to find work in the video game industry when he clearly has such disdain for the medium and just wants to make films. The irony there is that the only filmmaker who's on par with David Cage as a storyteller is Tommy Wiseau.
Not to mention the fact that Madison's entire role as a character is to almost get raped every single scene, scream a lot, and play nurse to and then later love interest to Ethan despite him being a total stranger to her. Apparently Cage knows so little about how women work it's a bit creepy.

Heavy Rain is so bad yet so entertaining in general.

OT: I never liked the first Deus Ex. Looks dated as hell because I played it in like 2012ish so I wasn't wearing Nostalgia Goggles to 100% ignore it and it wasn't even that interesting story wise.

Borderlands 1. I actually like the second one, but the first one was just so dull. The environments were so much of the same, the weapon range was meh at best(considering that's what the game was based around), and there felt to be little enemy variety.

And then Pokemon I guess, though not really hate, just find completely and utterly boring with little to no drive to actually beat the game. It's like a sport really. Other people find some incentive to play it, but for me it just seems to lack any sort of agency to make me want to do anything. It's stamp collecting except you pay the initial price to get in, and then it's just time consuming to collect them. That's why I prefer Plotkemon, I mean the MegaTen games. They have plot to them, and thus agency for me to beat the damn game. Also, you can make the rare demons, instead of having to farm for hours to collect them.

I guess none of those I actually hate, I'm just indifferent about them themselves, but find the people that like it annoying as hell. Not all, just the loud ones that make sure that everyone knows how great Pokemon is.

I'd have to agree that the structuring of Sonic Adventure is better than that of Sonic Adventure 2. While I appreciate the classic level-to-level structure that Sonic is known for, I really enjoyed the overworld hubs that Sonic Adventure had. Frankly I wish they made more Sonic games with that same structure, that aren't Sonic '06.

And SA2's treasure hunting was infinitely worse because of the stupid radar change they made. In SA, the radar beeps whenever you're next to the 1st, 2nd or 3rd emerald shard. In SA2, the radar only beeps when you're near the 1st shard, whether or not you're directly on top of the 2nd or 3rd. So it's infinitely more frustrating because you have to find the shards in sequence, unless you're uberlucky and find one out of sequence by chance. They just made treasure hunting a total chore to do, especially in the later stages. [sub]But I still absolutely love SA2.[/sub]

My controversial opinion of the week would Bioshock. And Bioshock 2. And Bioshock Infinite. Bioshock 2 being the worst of the 3. I got bored playing every single one of them. 1 and 2 weren't all that pretty, far as I'm concerned. Kind of an eye sore, to me. Infinite, while pretty, still bored me. The vigors were absolutely worthless(other than Possession and Bucking Bronto), the story was difficult to follow at points, Elizabeth was bipolar toward Booker and Booker's only redeeming quality for me was the fact that his VA is Troy Baker. Oh, and all of them are FPS titles. I do not find FPS gameplay fun, so there's that.

God of War (specifically ANYTHING after the 1st one)...I have never before wanted to see the protagonist fail so badly...

CoD just isn't my cup of tea. I wouldn't say I hated it, I just have no desire to have anything to do with it.

The Gears of War series, to start. A lot of it has to do with their pretentious trailers that everyone goes nuts over. The games themselves are nothing like the atmosphere those trailers cultivate.

The Halo series. Maybe I just like some sci-fi more than others. But Halo does not do it for me. The fact that people have said Halo 4 has the best story in the series makes me weep for narrative everywhere.

Of course I know I'm not alone in hating those two series. Let me see if I can think of something more specific ..

Ocarina of Time, but maybe that's not fair. That game blew me away back in the day, but I've only beat it once. Every other time I've tried to play it since, I just can't do it. I try to keep in mind what a milestone it was for the series and three-dimensional gaming, but actually playing it is quite boring.

Ah, here's one. Beyond Good and Evil. Maybe the game gets better, or maybe I just didn't play it at the right time (I actually wanted to play it back when it first released on the GCN but I couldn't afford it). I bought the HD release on XBLA and just .. it couldn't hold me. I keep thinking I'll give it another shot someday, though. Maybe when Beyond Good and Evil 2 has truly solidified into something that might actually happen.

Even on top of that, I just appreciate that the story modes were separate and that while playing as Sonic I'm not constantly interrupted to play as Tails or Knuckles instead.

And SA2's treasure hunting was infinitely worse because of the stupid radar change they made. In SA, the radar beeps whenever you're next to the 1st, 2nd or 3rd emerald shard. That's part of it, but I genuinely think that the way they actually designed the levels in Adventure was better than Adventure 2. Because they basically just took sections of Sonic's stages and repurposed them for all of the other characters in Adventure, the levels had to be more dynamic and intuitive, whereas in Adventure 2--the treasure hunting in particular--they didn't have to worry about that sort of thing so they could just slap everything wherever they wanted. And it led to gigantic clusterfucks of stages like "Aquatic Mine", "Pumpkin Hill", "Meteor Herd" and goddamn "Mad Space" and "Security Hall".

Well, hate is a big word (it's only video games), but still, on a scale from "I didn't like it much" to "I want to kill it with fire":

- I just couldn't get into Bioshock, I could have had a better experience with Arkham City (linearity can be a strength, Arkham Asylum proved that), I think Skyrim is a shallow mess and I want to punch everything about Dragon Age: Origins, starting with Alistair, that smarmy prick, closely followed by Morrigan. Hint to Bioware: nihilistic ***** is a despicable character type, but at least I could understand Jack.

I have a few actually.(No particular order)

Bioshock Series
Fallout3/NV
Mass Effect Series (I don't really hate the first game, but it wasn't all that stellar)
Red Dead Redemption
Any Assassin's Creed after the first one
Any Halo after Halo 3

There are probably more, but those are the ones I can think of right now.

With both Halo and Assassin's Creed I didn't like the direction the sequels took, and after requiring DLC to play most of the multiplayer modes, I thought Bungie were just a bunch of money-grubbing cunts.

Bioshock and Fallout were just boring to me, especially Fallout, with the horrendous scenery. I get that it's after a nuclear apocalypse, but they could have added some variety.

In Red Dead, I played on a friends file, and the first thing I did was hog-tie a dude and put him on the train tracks. The train came by, and he was still alive. That ruined the whole thing.

Mass Effect just wasn't all that great. The second one went in a direction I didn't really care for, and the third one is rather self-explanatory nowdays.

Awe, come on now, it's fun! Don't be such a fuddy duddy! You didn't have to click the link! Or are you mad because that little robot jerk tricked you into bouncing up and down so much you fell off the wire again? If so, I understand.

As for my answer, Borderlands 2 can get bent. I expected so much and got so little from that game. It's like the best shooter ever made with "Rummaging Around in Bins All Day Simulator" bolted to the side of its head.

Shameful.

Quite a bunch, actually:

Every Final Fantasy after IX, Eternal Darkness, Shadow of the Colossus, Crysis series, Assassins Creed series, Alan Wake, Halo series, Oblivion, Skyrim, Resident Evil 4 and more. Need to check my shelf to remember all.
You just named a lot of popular genres, I can't understand what is to not like about ALL of them. Kind of interested in what your reasons are for each one, starting at Shadow of the Colossus.

And I can't think anyone on this site can take the guy above me serious.

Any Modern military shooter. All that bullshit "Go marines", "Stay Frosty", "Check your six" and "Get to the LZ" crap makes me want to break my television. Linear, set-piece shooters like CoD and the like are as appealing as attaching a car battery with jump leads to my nipples.
