Yeah, I'm having a lot of trouble narrowing it down. It'd be a lot easier if the question was something like "What's the greatest game developer in each era", because, like my first post in this thread suggested, there are some developers who at some point in the past have been sublime but then for one reason or another completely crumbled. I can't think of one developer who's been consistently superb throughout its entire existence.thephich said:I don't think I could narrow my choice down to one. You got a point there. Well, I'll edit the post. Also, it's not about a developer that was "only" superb. Hell, Origin released a few duds themselves. I meant more like the general contribution of the developer to the industry.ten.to.ten said:Yeah, I'm having a lot of trouble narrowing it down. OK, so Bioware do go a bit RPG heavy on their list of great games, but c'mon, you've put Valve up there for consideration. Now, to clarify, I like Valve! I'm just putting this comment into perspective! Valve have built their entire company (effectively) off one game: Half Life. Valve's other great sucesses? Team Fortress - originally a Half Life mod. Portal - a puzzle game made as an apology to Half Life fans for the non-existence of Part 3. L4D - Zombie survival game using the Half Life engine.Nautical Honors Society said:I would have to say Valve or Blizzard.
I see a lot of people saying Bioware...I just don't get it, I love their games and they are a good company, but I don't think you can be the best just by remaking the same RPG in different settings.
Valve created Steam, I think for that reason alone they are up there as the best in the business.Grouchy Imp said:OK, so Bioware do go a bit RPG heavy on their list of great games, but c'mon, you've put Valve up there for consideration. So, yes, OK, nearly everything Bioware has done has been a repetition of the RPG formulas that made Baldur's Gate great. But equally, nearly everything Valve has done has evolved from the formulas that made Half Life great.
Look, I'm not having a go at Valve any more than you were having a go at Bioware, I'm just saying that either they both deserve to be up for consideration or neither of them do.

That's basically my list except Valve would be at the very top.Ghostwise said:It's a toss up between Rockstar, Bioware, and Bethesda. They are all phenomenal developers.
