I gotta say it's a personal thing very much. no I don't care if you think a character is over sexualized because sexy is defined differently by every person and they find different people sexy for different reasons. for example that chart has sheva from MK on the far end of unsexy, less sexy than elle from borderlands. me personally I find sheva crazy sexy. I hate MK but I like her design. I enjoy DOA a lot and I highly disagree with the girls having no personality of their own. it's not how a character looks but what they do that determines their personality I find shiek very cool and very sexy, Zelda not so much because in most games she doesn't do much.
I know I must be on the wrong side of this because I enjoy DOA and wasn't interested in the new tomb raider because to me it was advertised like torture porn and I don't personally enjoy seeing a woman impaled on a spike 8 different ways, when it's a bad guy I have less issue with it maybe that makes me backwards or unevolved but I am who I am. heck some of the characters I find most attractive are just cool characters not sexualized at all. lynn from fire emblem comes to mind. in the end character appearance is a very subjective matter of taste. I kinda feel the same way about the whole "boob armor" thing. armor in video games exists solely to look cool in no way does it's appearance truly affect the amount of protection it offers because its all 1s and 0s. so make armor that looks cool, for some people cool is a chainmail bikini, some women even. to some people cool is an amazon loaded for bear under so much heavy armor youd never know she had jumblies by looking. but ffs make it interesting I hate bland armor in games.
sexualization is something that happens in the mind and you will never know what people will think looking at your character for sure just look at all the porn of velma from Scooby do vs the porn of moxxi from BL2. moxxi is objectively a far more sexual character than velma but people go nuts for hot art of velma and while moxxi porn certainly exists it's nothing special. shit remember how esurance had to kill erin esurance because of the mountain of porn people made of her?
i'm in favor of both though, I like skimpy sexy outfits and I like interesting characters that participate in the narrative. I also like normal dressed women or "unsexy" clothing choices whatever the word is.
