The Stand extended edition I'd wager. It was in paper back and more than a little resembled a cube.

If a book series doesn't count (and I'm guessing it doesn't) then it would be The Stand By Stephen King, around 1400 pages long. And I've read it four times. A very good book that one.
I've got the uncut version of The Stand right here in my hand and it's 1153 pages, although it's a good sized hardback.

OT: Longest book I ever read was probably A Storm of Swords by George R.R. Martin. One thousand four hundred and some odd pages long.

im not sure, probably one of the Dark Tower books
And what great books they are.

OT: Probably something around 1000-1500. I don't keep track of these things.

It has a clown that kills children; and that's why it's better.
It isn't a clown, it just enjoys appearing as a clown because children aren't frightened of clowns and it has a warped sense of humour. What It really is I still think is one of the most imaginative and amazing things I have ever read.
OK, so it's a clown sometimes. Still a great book, despite the clown thing not being perpetual.

The fifth Harry Potter book, if I remember correctly it had about 800-something pages.

Paperbacks are obviously going to be a bit longer than hardbacks. It's would be hard for me to say though. I would have to go through my Song of Ice and Fire/Wheel of Time/Malazan Book of the Fallen series to see how they compared in length to my copy of the stand. Even then I could be wrong. I have four bookshelves in my room alone.

That varies a lot. My edition is 1138 pages.

And if series had counted, I would have won, having read all of the Discworld novels.

My uncut version is (checks) 1421 pages long. I think the original was around that before they re-released it with more stuff in it that had originally been edited.

Musashi by Eiji Yoshikawa. just south of 1000 pages, 8 pt font, single space.
I'm delighted to find someone else here who's read that one! My Swedish translation was about 1100 pages.

I agree, the stand is an incredible book. Its been released with all 4 books in one, and it ends up at a massive 1200 or so pages, but the longest book I've read is Stephen Kings "It", reaching an incredible 1376.

the longest I'm going to read will be Under the Dome. This is King's new book to be released on Nov 10 in England, and will be longer than It. Oh god.

(Page counts were taken from Hodder published paperbacks)

And yes, I agree with 2 posts above:
1. Its better than the Stand because it's more original.
2. And its better than the Stand because it has a shapeshifter that kills children.

I must say though, The Tommyknockers is my favourite King book, along side Cujo.

Currently reading some 50th anniversary edition of Lord of the Rings, 1137 pages if the library information card at the front of the book is correct. The last page is technically 1158, but the information card probably only counts the pages with actual text and not the maps/extras.

But until I've finished that, the Dutch version of the first A Song of Ice and Fire book will be the longest book I can remember with 767 pages.

There's a new one coming out? Yay! I can't wait, it's pre-ordering time! The Tommyknockers was alright, but his other amazing books include - The Talisman (with Peter Straub), The Dark Tower series, From a Buick 8, Cell and Lisey's Story. They're my little list of favorites anyway.

errr going on what I currently own and have read, as books don't stop long on my shelf, I'd say the Dexter Omnibus is nearly 600 pages, Battle Royale is longer but I've not finished that yet... yeah my biggest books are all around 600 pages, that seems so small compared to half the stuff being said...

Pillars of the Earth. I think it had around 1800, but that was along time ago.
