I got the complete Genesis collection for PS3 last christmas.

It taught me a good lesson though. The games of the past mostly all suck and that nostalgia is a very powerful thing.

I got the copy of the sims 3 for Xbox for christmas after I previously told my mate why I hated the sims and why I don't even consider it a full game.

Deer Hunter II. Never played it because the person who gave it to me got it for the Macintosh instead of the PC, so in retrospect it was more embarassing for him than it was for me.

I got some of those "Burger King" Xbox games a while back as a birthday present from my aunt. Thing is, I didn't own an Xbox back then.
That is why I set guidelines. I tell them my most wanted games, but if thy have to go in blind to get a RPG.
OP: Never happened to me.

One of those Old Scorpion King games. Can't remember the exact name. Was around 7-8 years ago though. I played it so they girl who got it for me didn't feel bad about it. But in the end, I just had to say it was a shitty game.

My aunt who doesn't know me very well bought me an RPG for the gamecube.
I forget the name, but it was literally all grind. No quests, no bosses, no real story. Just grind.
I remember that it was right in the instructions, "It is recommended that you spend at least an hour leveling up each character before proceeding."
Yeah, no, hello trash can.

http://www.shopncsx.com/images1/products/detail/to_love_ds.1.jpg This. (Sorry, don't know how to embed images.) The only thing you have to do in the game is tap the screen to lift there skirts up and other perverted stuff. Never played it. Don't plan on it any time soon. If you've read the manga or seen the anime you'll know what im talking about :p

GTA Vice city when I was 13 or so. Mostly because I had to explain to my parents why I thought it was awesome, which involved use of the phrases "Stealing cars" and "killing gang members."

When my mum got me a Gameboy Color she bought be the Buffy the Vampire game with it.
I ended up secretly giving it to my friend and pretended I lost it.

It actually makes me physically sad when my mum gets my taste so wrong, it'd be okay if it were a family member who I wasn't closer to than anyone else in the world. :S

Sacrifice. It only became embarrassing when we installed it and with a room full of people I got my arse handed to me 8 times on the first level.
