It's still embarrassing to be huddled under a HMMWV, particularly since I was never prone to such behavior during my time overseas (While others hunkered in bunkers in full battle dress [Which was the right thing to do], I usually just continued whatever the hell I was doing beforehand, frequently out in the open, usually not even wearing a jacket. I remember once smoking beside a mini bunker people were hiding in, in nothing more then boots, pants, and a shirt, and watching a rocket land about 50 meters away. While falling, it looked very much like it was going to land on me. All I can remember thinking was 'fuck it.').Cowabungaa said:Well, considering your old career, that's pretty understandable.AccursedTheory said:Bird Mortar. Yeah. Crawling under cars when a light boom goes off can be kind of embarrassing. Especially when you know its coming.
Luckily, I soon found out that everyone in my unit was a miserable coward, some of them hiding in Korea for almost a decade, filling positions that were non-deployable just to save themselves. This discovery led me to not caring much what they thought, to the point where arguments with my superiors usually ended with me throwing my combat patch in their face (Literally) and walking away.
