What's the most you've gone through to play a game, and was it worth it?

Be it importing it from another country, or navigating ridiculous foreign webpages, what's the most you've gone through to play one game?

For me, it's when I wanted to play I-Ninja on gamecube so much, but it wasn't released in the UK, so I imported the american version, and bought a magazine that had a free cheat disc that also functioned as a freeloader for the game (allowing me to play it on my UK GC). I definitely didn't regret it, as that was easily one of the best platformers on the cube.

I'm a boring person, so the most for me is simply pre-ordering God of War 3 from America with the most expensive shipping so I would get the game on American release day rather than European.

And it was totally worth the moneyz

I built a PC just so I could play STALKER: Shadow Of Chernobyl.

Dear lord, was it worth it. That game is great on its own, but if you install the Oblivion Lost mod (perhaps the greatest mod of all time) it becomes one of the greatest FPS's ever made.

So yeah, I paid ?750 and built it myself just for that game. I don't regret it a bit.
Interesting you should mention that game, I bought it for £2 in the steam sales but still have yet to play it.

Teaching myself some language or other to make .wad files for Doom and Doom II.

And spending a week typing out 80 pages of code to play a C64 game for it not to work due to a mistype in one line somewhere. Grrrrrr...

Broke into my grandmother's house when she was on a shopping trip to Sweden, just to get my cousin's copy of World of Warcraft. Went in through the back door, sounded the alarm, got the game, rang my dad to confess and then played.

Was not worth it, to be honest.

THAT is some SERIOUS dedication there...

Though I once had the luminous idea to learn Japanese to play the Pokemon TCG part 2, back when I was 14.

I could've pulled it of, but I'm lazy and couldn't find anyone who could teach me...

I'm American and haven't done anything interesting at all. I guess the most I've done is actually paid to rent a game the first week it's out since I work at a video store and get free rentals

I've never bought a foreign game or modded a system to play a foreign game, never had to worry so much about a release date that I ordered from somewhere else, and never had to do anything too crazy to play the game

I also wait to play games for sometime, till they're dirt cheap and I pay little to nothing to buy them or they're out long enough that I can rent them for free. But no matter the case I'm no into the whole "hype" thing, because what I have now deserves my attention, those fantastic games in the future won't distract my current self from my game on hand.

But again, I'm American so we get stuff first usually and don't really need to worry about anything else, though I have friends who have modded their systems to play japanese games, my girlfriend's bro has KH 1 and 2 and re:chain on PS2 along the final mixes, each version in American and japanese, so he's gone through a lot to play them, and if I had started the final mixes, I'd be using a modded PS2 with a certain disc to play...

I had no idea they even made a sequel to TCG! That game was so awesome though, it made me realise the game was actually pretty fun if you knew the rules.

I wanted to play Mass Effect but my rig was turning ancient.
After buying the game I found my I couldn't run it nearly well enough to enjoy it,even on lowest settings.
Upgrading was a no go, so I tried overclocking wich messed up my video card due to my lack of experience.
But I REALLY wanted to play that game........

So I went out to the nearest store and got myself a 360 and another (full priced) copy of Mass Effect.

Hell yeah it was worth it!

I'm from Wisconsin (That's in the United States, up north) and I went to Florida (One of the southern most states) to get Resident Evil 2 for PS1 from a flea market.

I would heartily recommend it, but first get the Oblivion Lost complete mod.

You can find it here, it's about 700 Mb

It's not so much that I don't WANT to play, and I fully intend to try it, it's just right now I literally have too many games to play. I bought it, and set it aside for a later date when I'm going through a gaming dry spell. I shall have to download that mod though, before I forget. I'd just rather not neglect some of my more recent purchases if you know what I mean.

Not quite. But still vaguely applicable in my eyes:
Black & White 1... Basically attacking the scripts (with lack of internet those days I had pretty much NO aid ): )
But learning off the scripts and recompiling the game, editing here there and everywhere... untill one day I was actually happy with what i have done ^^

Unfortunatly, now. All that data is in a 10 year old dell tower (still works as 'good' as the day i got it mind you ;P) Which serves it's purpose as a foot-rest.
