i had to follow a guide to play S4 League (which was only out in korea at the time) :p
Ahh I remember that game. One of the fun things about it, was because it was free, everyone's skill was so laughable, I was like a pro in their eyes. It felt good because generally I suck at PC shooters like CS, but this game I regularly got accused of hacking.

I don't have anything all that exciting, but I remember when I was young I was really looking forward to playing Duck Tales 2 for the NES but it was rented out (yes back when people actually rented games) everywhere, so my dad drove me around for a good 3 hours that day all around the city until we found a copy. My dad must have thought I was nuts but he still did it just to spend time with me, so that's nice I guess.

I imported 'Escape Velocity Nova' from Australia...

Now since I've become an Airsofter, importing stuff is not so exciting anymore.

Seriously, it's like everything is 50% off overseas...

Be it importing it from another country, or navigating ridiculous foreign webpages, what's the most you've gone through to play one game?

For me, it's when I wanted to play I-Ninja on gamecube so much, but it wasn't released in the UK, so I imported the american version, and bought a magazine that had a free cheat disc that also functioned as a freeloader for the game (allowing me to play it on my UK GC). I definitely didn't regret it, as that was easily one of the best platformers on the cube.
First time I played System Shock II, It took me forever to get it to work on my copy of XP. The game was a pirated copy and I struggled for a day trying to get it to work. I've since tracked down the real copy (manual, box, case and all) and it's alot easier to get it to run nowadays.

$80. Rez for the Ps2. Then the value dropped when it came out on xbox live arcade. X.x
Other than that, FFXIII. I sold all my other games for it. Which wasn't many but still.
Worth it? Hell yes.

Phone ordered $89.99 directly to CAPCOM to purchase a copy of Breath of Fire II through the mail back when the SNES was relevant. Only a few hundred thousand copies in print and no one had it in stock.

Totally worth it. Loved that game.

Bought a PlayStation 2 for Metal Gear Sold 2: Sons of Liberty, worth it just to hear Snake refer to himself as "Pliskin"

Bought a copy of Osu! Tatake! Ouendan! at PAX a few years back because I saw a gameplay video of it. I have not for a single moment ever regretted paying that premium.

Probably the biggest investment time-wise was when I wrote an Asteroids-type game for my TI 99-4/a way back when. Was actually a pretty fun game, if simplistic.

Bought a PSP specifically so I could play God Of War: Chains Of Olympus. Totally worth it.

And of course, bought a PS3 specifically to play God Of War 3. Definitely worth it. The other games I've picked up for it have just been a bonus.

Had to go to a friend's house to play Forza 3. A whole 20 metres from my door to his. It was worth it.

Hmm, looking back, I had to save my meagre pocket money for a very, very long time to buy Street Fighter II:SCE for the Mega Drive. It was a damn expensive game for its day, the first 24 megabit cartridge for the Mega Drive I believe. But I was obsessed with SF2 back then, it was most definitely worth it.

I built a PC just so I could play STALKER: Shadow Of Chernobyl.

Dear lord, was it worth it. That game is great on its own, but if you install the Oblivion Lost mod (perhaps the greatest mod of all time) it becomes one of the greatest FPS's ever made.

So yeah, I paid ?750 and built it myself just for that game. I don't regret it a bit.
Greatest mod of all time. Seconded. Nothing's made a game as infinitely replayable as Oblivion Lost did. I've never actually beaten STALKER because of all the time spent doing Oblivion Lost.

I'd have to say working really hard and earning a ton of money to buy my own computer and then learning to run it in secret while living in a church library (and borrowing the church's internet) in order to play it. My family doesn't like it when I play games, and I don't have a bedroom, so living next door at the church it is. I still have to hide video games from them.

At another point, I was living in a trailer, it was below freezing outside, and I was traipsing over a mile through the weather to download the Marathon games from my library's computer (they're open source or something), where it was forbidden to use USB drives, so I had to be really sneaky about it, and then traipsing back and playing the games in the freezing trailer with my gloves on.

I have no idea how it posted without me actually writing my post. Here's the edit.

Not really too mad, I bought a PS3 for Metal Gear Solid 4, and yes it was well worth it, that game is gloriously entertaining... not only that but I now have a fondness for PS3 only games and my collection is steadily increasing.

Still get all games on 360 where possible though.

Final Fantasy X.
Had it with a PS2 emulator on my PC, and it sucked. It took hours to go through Zanarkand. So then I bought a PS2 off Craigslist and it came with Guitar Hero 1. We still haven't figured it out, but it could only run that. I tried playing FFX after I bought it and it would freeze or not load at all. Then I tried renting a Silent Hill game, and it wouldn't load either. Took the PS2 to a city 40 minutes away that had the closest GameXchange left and they cleaned it, which didn't help. Somehow it plays FFXIII just fine though, go figure. So, I saved up another $80 and bought a PS2 from Gamecrazy and could finally play FFX, and it was worth it.

I once walked a total of 12 miles (six there, and then six back) to the local (or not so local wal-mart) to buy a copy of dragon age origins

When I was young I managed to convince my Dad to drive around for 3+ hours trying to find a copy of Red Alert: Aftermath. Was well worth it in the end.
