So by that logic, works such as Pride and Prejudice aren't considered classics because a lot of people (particularly in places where education takes a backseat to faith) haven't heard of it.

It's considered "classic" enough to be shown on practically every major television network every holiday season multiple times alongside others such as The Grinch Who Stole Christmas (1966), Rudolf The Red-nosed Reindeer, Frosty the Snowman, It's a Wonderful Life, Christmas Vacation, etc. So saying it isn't one necessarily a display of willful ignorance.
