I kept waiting for someone to say "What's the point of everything? That's easy, it's Forty-Two."

A bit more on topic... I wouldn't have as much of a problem with learning if it didn't feel like I was being forced to learn stuff I'd never use, or if they didn't just be based on how well I did my homework when I did my tests just fine (or vice versa). Learning felt an awful lot like a job I wasn't getting paid to do, that I didn't even want to do. It doesn't help that I forgot tons of the stuff after I finished school because as I figured there was no practical application for it in everyday life unless I got a job in that particular field, which I didn't.

Hell, nothing I learned in school prepared me for getting a job. Maybe that is why I can't seem to find one. Well, that and the economy is absolute crap right now.

EDIT: Damn it, while I was typing someone did mention 42. >_>

I found a joke religion on facebook which amazingly sums it up. It's called galavatised Inconsequencialism. The gist of it is Do what you want to do, when you want to do it. As long as it doesn't hurt anyone or stop other people doing what they want to do. Whilst you are doing it have as much fun as possible and don't care what anyone else thinks. For the universe is massive and effectively what you do in the grand scheme of things doesn't make one little bit of difference as the universe carries on regardless. So go nuts and enjoy yourself whilst you have the chance.
That sounds like my kind of religion, especially the "as long as it doesn;t hurt anyone or stope anyone doing anything they want to do"
it makes sense to me, so much so that i intend to put it as my religion in the next census :D.

The truth is that there is no meaning in anything other than what you make it to be. Everything in this world, without exception, will disappear. As long as you do what you can to live each day to its fulliest and enjoy your time than what more can you do?

Material things don't matter. Looking at alot of my peers, concerned about wearing designer clothing, getting the newest Ipods, and having a complete disregard for anything they think is "beneath them" is saddening. Just as an example.

The only thing that gives anything any meaning is you. Everything is what you make it.

I find it pretty funny that your mind went from arcade games to the meaning of life...

OT: as other people have said, nothing has a point. Unless, that is, you decide to give it one.

I really don't know.

So far I believe things just exist to try and make our lives more pleasent whilst we're alive, but other than that its probably nothing. There is very little meaning in anything besides family and friends, and sometimes not even in family and friends, other than the meaning given to it by someone.

Life has whatever point you give it, so make it as fun as possible for everyone.

That's a very nihilistic attitude sir. Perhaps you would like to take a look at the Nihilism page on Uncyclopedia. It's very informative.

Anyways, boring nihilism aside, why not do this stuff? We might as well. It'll all disappear, but enjoy life, enjoy it with gusto.

I had your attitude to life a few months ago, and even though I've stayed anti-social, and continue to despise most of the people around me, I've decided to just go for it and show how awesome I am before I die.

Because I can. And just existing is a feat in itself, if you look at what it took to create the conditions needed for this planet to support carbon-based lifeforms.

Although this may all be to do with my own mood swings. Right now though, I feel fairly confident in myself.

Up yours inevitability! I'll die after being awesome!

There really is no point, if you take the wider view. Depressing but true. Just try not to think about it. =)

I think Bill Bailey said it best
"Of course, uh, the universe is gradually slowing down and, uh, will eventually collapse inwardly on itself, according to the laws of entropy when all it's thermal and mechanical functions fail, thus rendering all human endeavours ultimately pointless. Just to put the gig in some sort of context."

No matter how much we achieve as a species, eventually, it'll all be for nothing..

So go nuts and have the best time you can in the meantime as in the end, nothing matters.

This is the point of a pencil.

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_m_B5Y2vwyR0/S61jw8P-mEI/AAAAAAAAAAM/O7Pll6pCkSc/s1600/sharp+pencil.jpg

as you will notice, the others are indeed pointless.
