What's the Royal Wedding like from where you're standing?

So here in England, most of what I've seen regarding the Royal Wedding has been in terms of contempt or derision. This is probably due to the media I consume; as a Guardian reader who doesn't watch ITV, the most patriotic thing I've seen in regards to the wedding was a Currys Easter Sale advert. But it doesn't seem like anyone is exactly excited about it.

So what is it like in other countries (or, indeed, counties >.<)? Those of you in the US, can you escape it while watching the news? What about people living in the Commonwealth? Is it treated as a wedding in your royal family, or as a weird British thing? What about those of you in Ireland? Have you started burning effigies yet?

All I've heard about it is people don't like it and it's a waste of money and noone cares etc.. That seems to be the general world vibe.

I love it though. I've got my teatowel, and I'm well looking forward to the drinking game!

In America, a lot of the major news outlets are covering it as if it is some gigantic deal.
Most of my friends (Including myself) don't really give a shit.

I'm happy for William and Kate as I would be for anyone else getting married, but beyond that, I don't really care, and I'm English.

I mean, I like the Royal Family and all, but I don't see the point of all the fuss. All this hype would be fair enough if it was a coronation, but it aint, so why can't they just keep it low-key.

I live in California, so the only time I ever hear about it is when I'm watching BBC America.
We've got our own 'royalty' to watch over here...

No one cares about it. Yet the news keep doing 5 minute segments on what the fucking tablecloths will look like at the damn wedding.

Live in North West of England - Nobody knows or cares about any of it

I like having a symbolic monarch but I just don't care about their personal lives in the least.

I'd say that's how the entire U.S. regards it. (I can say that's how New York cares for it: news, going apeshit over it. Everyone else, don't give a shit)

Lifted from a similar thread here is how I will be spending the day:

Heck, how many of you right here in the UK are watching it?
I'm not (and I'm English). But what I will be doing... During the last football competition that England were doing well at in 2006 or 2008 the final game England were in the whole nation was fixed. Me? I cooked up a batch of cannabis muffins tucked in and walked around my usually busy home town (Brighton). The streets being dead, me tripping the light fnatastic made it feel like I was in '28 Days Later'/first episode of The Twilight Zone or something similar walking around deserted streets. Heres hoping I can repeat the experience!
Holy shit this sounds amazing
It is. Also the lack of people means you can smoke in public without any hassle. I would recommend an mp3 player (I tend to take one everywhere anyway) but the right music can add to the experience. For the Royal Wedding I will be taking the following:

GTA IV complete soundtrack (every track from every music station not the comercially released single CD).

Vice City complete soundtrack (all 7 CD's ripped).

Fallout 3 and New Vegas soundtracks.

I am going to have me one epic day.
Strictly OT don't care other than object to the cost of security and the nature of a monarchy.

Well the media in Germany keeps track of it regularly, we had the big TVspecials when it was announced and we probably will have another week of those when its done. Since the bonds to the german nobility are pretty close everyone who is in the slightest related to the lines of "von Sachsen-Coburg Gotha" or "von Battenberg" are interviewed 24/7

Sounds like fun. Hopefully no-one will be celebrating on the streets. If so, I'll give that a try.

Nothing much here in Washington DC besides the news outlets going crazy for it. Though something tells the British embassy might get a crowd gathering.

I'm in the UK, our company sent a 5 foot tall card to the Prince and Princess-to-be.

For anyone not familiar with that unit of measurement, it's about the height of a petite woman.

Everyone in the office was encouraged to sign it because you'd need a lot of signatures to fill the card.

However, almost all of the employees view the wedding as a joke and a waste of time. Obviously though, if a card is being sent at least a few in upper management think the Royals are just aces.

EDIT: We're South-East England (not far from London), so perhaps that makes a difference.

Yes, you have to stand through-out, and salute whenever a member of the royal family is on screen.

It's the law.

Well, you see, if you were BRITISH, patriotic protocol would involve grumbling and insulting it, then half heartedly watching it in the company of relatives. I'm not really sure what the Canadian approach to royalism is. Possibly you drink from mugs with pictures of royals on them?

It looks like a stinking huge waste of my taxes from where I'm standing...

Well I can't see the royal wedding from where I'm standing :p

I'm from the UK and the main result for me is a resounding meh. I think the royal family's more of a way to bring in tourists to make money so if anything it'ld be the Europeans that would be excited (of course I may very well be likely be wrong as well)

As an Australian-American-British-New-Zealander, I don't particularly care. Just like I didn't care about the last politician/celebrity/religious figure who got married. I guess I'm inured to media hype.

But what I don't get is why AMERICANS care. THEY REBELLED. Would the Russians be dancing in the streets if Czar Nicholas II came back to life and got married? It has nothing to do with them! Why does any non-British person CARE?
