Fatal Frame.

Also, Silent Hill 4: The Room freaked me out when I first played it (I was 12 or 13).

A horror GAME on the other hand, well I'm pretty much sitting in the drivers seat. The main character is suddenly an avatar for my actions. Someone else isn't being chased down a hallway, I'M being chased down a hallway. I find it MUCH more effective!
I based my theory around my experiences with horror games, but I guess it realy depends on the player and level of immersion/atmosphere the game has.

You're absolutely right. I was just trying to point out both ways of looking at essentially the same idea (passive observation Vs. interaction).
