A whole crab? Cause the meat is delicious. A napkin qualifies a little odd, unless you mean just a bit stuck to a delicious piece of BBQ chicken in that case happens all the time.

A raw rabbit eyeball. At Survival Evasion Rescue Training. It tasted like a peeled grape, and they contain lots of electrolytes.

I also smoked lettuce once, does that count?
Might you be talking about SERE training? Survival Evasion Resistance Escape training?

Cause I actually went through that. Not up on the training involved in other services, but there where never any raw rabbit eyeballs when I went through training.

As far as the odd things I have eaten, well I will eat just about anything anyone else will eat, just to try it. I like to list a different one each time this thread comes up so this time you get to know about the time I tried century eggs. Well egg. I only tried one.
Yes I really did, the civilian version mind you. And while we were preparing to cook a delicious rabbits, one of the trainers dared me, so I ate it. I mean I really didn't want to end up looking like a *****, in front of those military guys. SERE looks great on my lifeguarding application forms even if I don't remember what it stands for.

Fried maggots.

Took me 10 minutes to gather the balls to try one. Shortly after I asked for a second bowl. Sadly there wasn't any left.

Those things really are damn tasty, fried in a bit of sunflower or olive oil. Sprinkle a bit of salt on them, and voilà, a tasty and healthy TV snack.

I once had a salad in France that had 'gésier de canard' in it, but I had no idea what it was except that it was some part of a duck.
Back home I learned that it was duck gizzard. It was quite good actually.

I also ordered fried squid once in Venice, expecting those delicious squid rings. Instead I got a bowl full of whole fried baby squids.
It was great, but I just don't like it when my food stares at me.

Also when I was a kid, a ladybug...
Let me tell you, there's a reason these bugs are bright red. It's not because they taste great.
