I think it's fairly self explanatory. What is, in your opinion, the worst thing that has happened to gaming in general recently?

Myself I'd have to go with Blizz leaving LAN out of Starcraft 2

I would have to say patching. The idea that you can sell a broken game and fix it later is just awful. With all of the complaints by game companies that people buy used games or older games instead of new games at the time of release, you would think that they would realize that people actually want working games and that can only be guaranteed after the first few patches.

People. Games would be much better off without the people playing them. Or money actually. I can't decide.

The Xbox 360's Red Ring of Death that causes millions of 360 owners to renounce the 360 or cough up money for another 360 or the warranty.

Also the whole console war thing, it pretty much escalated within this generation. Can't we all just stop hating each other's consoles and enjoy gaming altogether no matter on what console it is?

The terms 'casual' and 'hardcore' being introduced.
I'll agree with this. There are always going to be console wars and PC elitism (at least until they accept my proposal for the Piibox360 emulator) so there's nothing we can really do about that. But then we had to go and divide the gamer population with yet another imaginary line - hardcore and casual.

Online multiplayer. For those of us who prefer single player games, the obsession with online has ruined perfectly good franchises as developers have neglected AI figuring "the customer's going to be playing with humans anyway."

Jack Thompson. He was the thorn in gaming's side.
I would agree if he was at all effective in anything he did but the guy is a joke who has given more free marketing to tons of games than he cares to admit. He's probably done more to sell games than to boycott them. He even sends his own son out to get every new R* game.

I would have to say that I can't decide between the two worst things that have happened to gaming in the past decade because they have both made gamers look like the biggest suckers on the face of the planet: Gamestop and the RROD.

You tell me, which one is worse?

The push for crappy games who's only draw is that they look pretty. Flooding the market with shit games is what caused the video game downfall of the 80s, and we may be heading there again soon.
