That is AWESOME.
Thanks. I honestly didn't think anyone would read the whole thing, but that's seriously the best time I ever had online.
This wasn't online, but this set the stage for a lot of future evil in games:
In FFIV, you get to the bombed-before-your-eyes caslte of Damcyan, and, by complete luck, I had stumbled upon the big treasure horde on the side of the castle. The path in was blocked by a man crawling on the ground, moaning about the loss of his eyes before he dies of blood loss on the ground.
But I was about 7 at the time, and I was so stoked at having found all the hidden treasure I just said, out loud, 'Sucks to be you!' and ran on ahead to pillage the site of major genocide. And thus the stage of a great adventuring legacy was set, and no chest or bag was safe from my clutches from then on. People that didn't play old-school RPG's will never truly understand the gleeful mindset of barging in someone's house, taking all their belongings and
then asking if they've seen a black-caped man.
My brother has a better one, online: In FFXI, my brother had fallen in with a certain linkshell (clan/guild) that thought the world of themselves but were just absolutely awful. They did Dynamis regularly (an set of endgame raids), but rarely if ever had a suitable group for it and always got creamed, usually right off the bat, accomplishing nothing and wasting everyone's night.
So my brother gets an offer to join another, far, far better linkshell, and most people are very understanding and no one really bears him any ill-will. Except one person, someone seemingly amalgamated from every negative MMO=player stereotype. Total no-lifer. He just goes CRAAAAAZY and throws a huge fit about it. My brother did a great job of calming him down and everyone gathers for the last Dynamis he's going to do with them. Now, as they warp into Dynamis, brother isn't looking at his screen (watching TV), and is just holding the 'forward' button on the keyboard. He looks back and he's run straight into a huuuuuuge group of very powerul enemies, and he totally panics and runs back to the group, leading them back to the group, naturally. This wipes almost everybody, of course; the only people that survived were people that hadn't zoned in yet, one of which was, luckily, a healer.
I was there, and I know it was just an accident. Actually, it was probably talking to me that drew his attention away. But to all of us, it looked like he was sabotaging the run. It was pretty hilarious for us, but naturally a certain linkshell member just exploded at this and starts a huge fight. Luckily, my brother once again successfully mediates and they go on to complete a relatively successful run.
