What's this obsession with "classic" Windows?

Like XPs look it was functional yet easy on the eyes in a basic kind of way. The older window 'classic' look is grey and drab in my opinion can't stand when i'm in work. Windows 7 is very nice to look, the new taskbar cuts down on clutter.

Think most people like the classic windows look because of familiarity and change in design can be scary for the less tech savvy individual

Because everyone hated Vista and it was just one more thing to complain about. Then they made 7. And it still kinda looked like Vista. Ergo it must be shit. But it is not. Oh angry masses, you so silly.

I really like the thingy in the bottom right, you don't have to aim for the minimize button any more :D
You mean OSX has a thing you can click on at the bottom of the screen to minimize a window? Amazing stuff. That seems almost as easy as being able to do the same thing by clicking on the window's associated taskbar item.

I'm not the retard who doesn't know how to use a computer, you're the loser who complains every time an interface change is made.
...for the worse. Why wouldn't anyone complain about that? You once again seem to be completely ignoring the point how it's not "omg that square is now more like a circle!", it's "where the fuck is that info I was always normally able to see?"

Owyn_Merrilin said:
If you had a facebook account -- which is unlikely given the makeup of this site -- I'd be willing to bet you would be one of the users who complained about every little interface change, even the ones that actually made the environment more user friendly.
What is a facebook?

And as for the profanity thing, I'm not a prude, but I don't swear lightly, and I almost never swear on forums, because it almost always weakens your argument. Your swearing in this post tells me that either you don't have the writing skills to get your point across without resorting to profanity, or you are actually mad enough about these changes that you were brought to the point of swearing.
What an extremely silly idea. All you're doing here is making me further realize how you happen to be a horrible person. To inject such a crappy sentiment... it seems you are relying mostly on ad hominems as your type of argument. Your perception does not change reality simply because of how you feel.

Owyn_Merrilin said:
Either case is pathetic. Oh, and trust me, when I swear, people listen, because I don't do it often.
Trust you? Funny, that typically warrants the exact opposite reaction than what the request is for. Why would anyone suddenly pay attention to how you spoke when you are awash with a million other howler monkeys screaming for attention? You undercut your logic with such a postulation.

Beyond all that, pretty much every complaint in the post I was responding to has no basis in the actual operating system. You still haven't demonstrated that there is any appreciable difference between classic view and large icons. Hint: there isn't, you're just grasping at straws. I just pulled up Windows 95 in a virtual machine, and surprise surprise, it looks like XP's classic mode, which looks like 7's Large Icon view.
Regarding the control panel? What part of "alphabetical rows" have you not been able to understand? Since when does any Windows OS prior to Windows 7 only have the option to organize the items in alphabetical rows? Do you even know what a row is? It should be obvious that I mean something that isn't a column (I already said this), which if you didn't know is not the same thing as a row. Every other OS has had the option to change the view, and that is because the control panel was treated just like any other folder.

Have you forgotten every point I already made? I also said how going to the CP in Explorer automatically removes the folder pane and puts it into category view; another horrible decision. And since you can't change the folder view to Details, you don't get any description info to go along with the items. This is what any sane person would call a huge step backward.

Owyn_Merrilin said:
Additional icons do not a completely new view make.
You were the only one brining up anything about having more icons. It is and has been a moot point.

Owyn_Merrilin said:
Further, the missing information you're talking about in explorer is still there, and takes up very little space even on my 1366X768 monitor,
What information? I completely believe that you didn't really understand what I was mentioning, despite how simply it should be. So, you really should clarify, so I know just exactly how wrong you are.

If you're just referring to the Details pane, then you once again missed the point. That info used to be in the status bar, including the part showing how much disk space is left. Instead, most of it has been moved to that ugly Details pane and we get a useless large file icon on the left in lieu of the disk space. This is a completely unnecessary move, and even a detrimental one.

Owyn_Merrilin said:
so I don't see the problem there -- or don't most people have much bigger monitors than that these days?
There is no reason for the Details pane to take up as much space as it does. The monitor size doesn't matter, but it's not like everyone is repping 30-inches. Any bit of extra space this stupid pane takes up is space that could be used to display files and folders. If the old status bar could do the same thing -- actually, could do better -- then what is the brilliant reasoning for gimping it and moving to something more showy?

Owyn_Merrilin said:
Finally, your complaint about the size of the icons is really a case where you need to adjust;
Wait, what complaint? Oh, this is just another case of you not understanding anything and missing the point. It is getting old. If you don't understand, just ask. No need to be ashamed of your ignorance. Well, actually there is a lot...

Owyn_Merrilin said:
it's an extremely minor change, which has benefits as well as costs. The situation you gave for it to be a problem is really narrow, and is easily fixed by holding down the control button and clicking on the individual icons, which has been a feature of the operating system since before Windows 95.
It's funny. You acting like you're teaching me something. Very funny.

All you did here was take the least of my complaint from this one subject. You also ignore how I said it would be much easier to stick with my current method. You must have some sort of disability to not be able to imagine how holding down a key while you click on a bunch of individual items is definitely not easier than clicking and dragging the cursor from point A to point B.

Why should I be forced to use the keyboard? It seems MS is hell-bent on making users use the keyboard for everything in the interface now, or at least more difficult to just use the mouse
like I was able to before.

Owyn_Merrilin said:
To conclude, the good in all of this easily balances the bad, and in my opinion, outweighs it to boot.
Yet you haven't made a good argument at all about anything you defend. You haven't even defended everything, instead only picking a couple items and saying "well... it's not like I needed it".

If your pastime is being an insufferable troll, I commend your excellent performance. If you're actually being serious with all of this, you really need to loosen up a little bit,
Says the person that said "Sheesh, U mad bro?"

Owyn_Merrilin said:
these OS changes are not the end of the world.
You are right; they are not. Luckily there are thousands of people like myself that notice how Microsoft is fucking over the people that happen to be using their OS as it was originally intended, and the ones with knowledge of how to do something about it have created numerous hacks and workarounds to re-enable the lost functionality or ditch the horrible design additions brought in with Vista and 7.
Welp, I'm done arguing on this, you're trolling, and I've spent way too much time on this argument as it is. GG, man.

Edit: Well do I ever feel dumb. I've been arguing with someone whose screen name is a slightly modified version of "You suck dick." Look at it -- usucdik, "You suck dick." I'd report him if I weren't the one who got trolled -- since I just got done arguing with the guy, it would be a dick move and a cheap way to end the argument.
