I kinda feel like I dodged a bullet with that one since I sat on Direct 2 Drive's sale last night for like 30 mins before I decided I wanted to wait and see.
Ya if you want to trust ign for your games reviews.....
Joystiq gave it a 40, commented that it 'fell on it's face'. Yikes. Might not be the blockbuster I was hoping for. Good thing I didn't preorder it. Here I come, L.A Noire!

EDIT: Wait, IGN hasn't reviewed the game yet. What?
I'm in Europe so I get ign uk?
Maybe the US Ign didn't post it yet?

It's not original and it's definitely not unique.

It's an online FPS (i.e. the most stale genre of our time). It's basically Team Fortess 2 with a splash of Mirror's Edge.

Also, "deep narrative" my arse. Sure, blurring the line between narrative-driven single player and competitive multiplayer sounds good in promotional videos. But in practice mixing a story-driven campaign and the chaotic teabag frenzy of online FPSing is like trying to mix wine-tasting with kickboxing.

However, that doesn't make it bad. I personally think it will be worth getting. Hell, I have the sucker pre-ordered and pre-loaded.
I think that they are trying to say that the plot and setting are unique and original. Although it is very similar to bioshock (Once a nice place has recently fallen to ruin). You are pretty much stating that just because it is an fps it is not unique.

I've been playing the first person campaign on steam. As far as I can tell it's going to be a new style counter-strike. Sure you can avoid the objectives and go on a killing spree but the teamwork is a must for anything else. The Ai is pretty retarded to say the least so I'm looking forward to seeing how online play matches up. Personally I don't think it is a revolution in gaming. But I think It will be a fun game to have on your shelf.
Plus you can level up and unlock weapons, and abilities is single player for multiplayer so even in-experienced players can get some skill before jumping into a Vet pit a few months from now.

From what I've been reading, it seems to be on par with most opinions and reviews. It's just too bad that anyone with a PS3 won't be able to enjoy the online sensation.

I just watched the gametrailers review, and the parkour bits are not that good, as you can only climb certain things.

Plus, the single player is suppose to be rubbish.

Oh well, another game i won't be getting.

Its sad you can just go out and rent a game and make your own opinion on something, you rather just follow what other people say about the game and completely ignore the fact that you most likely havnt played it and have hardly the right to make an opinion of it.

Nope, this is completely my own opinion. I didn't like the look of it even before i watched a review on it.

Games are expensive, and I can't be doing with another fps at the moment (in other words, they bore me).

Just because it's a good idea doesn't mean it's gonna work.

In fact, if it doesn't work the chances are it's gonna fall hard on it's ass.
so what you are saying is that if you don't succeed you run the risk of failure? why thank you for that insight George W.

I'm still in two minds about brink. Some games which try to build themselves as genre defying and unique by sticking in aspects from as many genres as possible, well there are many more places in which it can fall short. The free-running can work as well as anyone ever dreamed, but if the combat fails, then it's not going to work. that's part of what dragged mirrors edge down for example. i hope it makes it, it certainly deserves it simply because of being more inventive than most games on how the action is delivered.

I am pretty sure the game will be awesome too, but I doubt it will change the genre. Doesn't add nothing new, just mixes everything that worked on other games into 1. The best thing is that apparently it still manages to be a balanced game with multiple ways to be played, depending on your class and your body type. It sure offers a lot of fun to be had, I'm getting it fo'shizzle.

And yet Eurogamer gave it an 8/10... http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-05-10-brink-review?page=2

Tell you what, pick two games you wish to buy that are out at the same time. Buy Brink, and if it's not as good as it was cracked up to be (I've been following this game for a long time now, so bad times if it isn't) return it and get the other game.

You know who's the best reviewer? You.
I agree. Even if the argument feels hollow after you've shelled out $60 for a game you didn't like. I'll try renting Brink first, because I'm interested in it.

Definitely genre-defying, even in some small ways. It looks amazing, can't wait till my copy arrives.

Actually, I think you leaped in front of a bullet as soon as you started listening to IGN. There are as many good reviews as bad. Don't judge a game solely based on the first bad review you see.

Having played it for a few hours last night, I can confidently state two things about Brink:

1) It's a very fun game, with a great deal of depth and lot of things to enjoy about it. Especially if you enjoy TF2 or other similar objective-based team shooters.

2) It desperately needs a tutorial. There's a lot of new, or at least unusual, mechanics in Brink, and they don't explain any of it. The challenges do a fairly decent job of getting everyone acquainted with the various bits in the gameplay, but a tutorial that walked you through everything instead of just trial and error all day would have been very nice.

Once I figured out how to play the stupid thing, I loved it to bits. The first 45-60 minutes drove me up the wall, though. If you can manage to push through the learning curve, it's awesome. Until then, it's an exercise in annoyance and frustration.

Doesn't look like it doesn't anything new...

It's got a different art style - and that's it.
It's added the feature du jour (parkour... which should probably be showing up in a Mario game any day now) to a MP FPS, so there's that. And if you're hankering for some Team Fortress style MP on a console, there's that.

Slightly different recipe made from familiar ingredients. Really comes down to whether console players what a TF-style game. Even the most favorable reviews I've seen dismiss the single player campaign, which isn't surprising. Unreal Tournament was probably the best MP game as single player experience ever... and the team modes were on the annoying side. Depending on the map, you were either useless or had to carry the whole show... and neither situation is much fun. Looks like bot technology hasn't gotten any better.

Well, since that's actually a 'Bushism' and i was using it to illustrate how you were kind of pointing out the obvious, well it probably sounds stupid to you but i still would have thought you would have realised i was being sarcastic when i referred to you as George W.

Oh yeah, you may want to look up 'condescending' in a dictionary.

Witty Name Here said:
What annoys me so far is the A.I., when they attack, they zerg rush no matter how stupid or suicidal the idea is, when they defend they all just turtle in the objective area, it's near impossible to do the whole "Capture this object and return it to base!" thing because even if you manage to get it you'll be dead before you can run off...

Also, the "SMART movement" is somewhat annoying as well, I guess you can only do parkour on the "Light" character build because so far I haven't been able to run across walls or any of the things advertised, and sliding is a pain, it involves you making your character look directly down then pressing "A"... Try to do that and then look up again to shoot at enemies and then tell me about annoying...

Once I play it some more and maybe try out the multiplayer, then I'll give my full review.
I noticed that using the Smart button by its self is kinda robotic, its much easier to tap it for sprint and to hold jump to climb. That made things for me so much easier

Oh really? I thought you actually thought I was the real George W. Bush for a second there. Crisis averted.

And seeing how it's not entirely obvious as any small gimmick will sell millions of Copies (look towards the Wii), I still stand by what I said.

And what does Condescending have to do with anything? I already know what it means. And I know it was used here a few times by both me and you.

Is there a reason to this homework assignment, or did you just really want me to discover this new fabulous word that is all the rage these days?

My hopes. So shattered. Brink was sop hyped to surpass CoD, and it appears to have parkour'd it's way into a faceplant. I may have to rent it to give it my own verdict. If it isn't worth it, at least I only spent $5.
