It's a case of "internet cool" which is retarded because no one likes those people in real life. It's incredibly annoying as well.

But it can also be a case of hyperbole for the sake of laziness, saying "I hate humanity" and letting people figure out that you can't possibly mean that is a lot easier than saying "I hate T, U, V, W, X, Y and Z groups of people but only these kinds of X and that kind of T etc etc".

Human behaviour is a strange thing. If you look at it one way then most people are good and decent. Look at it the other way and most people are selfish monsters who ruin everything good. Both are probably true but you have to assume that people are good to get along with them but really we know that people are also unpleasant shits.

Yeah, i mean i act like i can hold a grudge but i really cant, i generally pride myself in having high moral standards and really being the nicest guy to everybody. Consequently i have tonnes of awesome friends, and yet they never fail to disappoint me. =P
Yay to us!

Well, most of my friends aren't /that/ cool but thats because first impressions stick and I used to be a big nerd but I changed. First impressions didn't so I'm kinda stuck with nerd friends but the people who didn't know me at all back then are okay :D

Yeah one thing that's also annoying about /them/ is that they spout the same bullshit on EVERY topic that is about a person or a group of people..

Woo another thing to facepalm at. The problem is that the people who follow that are either general jackasses to anyone because nothing is worth anything anyway OR they are just general depressed people.

If anything you should EMBRACE life if it's worth nothing because you can get a ton of fun out of it

Nice topic, I was actually pondering the same question myself last night.

It really is if its cool to hate everyone and be proud to be an arsehole to everyone.

From bitter experience iv'e found it's easier to assume the majority of the human race are assholes until proven otherwise.

And the reason why most people on here seem to get on is i'd guess that we all share a pretty similar mindset.

Next time someone acts like a jerk because nothing is worth anything anyway just tell them that gaming isn't productive either.

They'll cringe

and shut up

I hope

Do you want to be 'internet cool' or do you actually hate people?
I think they just want to be 'internet cool' by pretending they have no souls.
Silly people, everyone has a soul, it's just that mine is black and shriveled.
Ah that just made my evening. Now irony pisses me off cause I can never tell when something is ironic or just seems it but tat statement sounds pretty ironic. or maybe just hypocritical...

Yeah I has going to start a thread asking this question. You saved me the trouble, awesome.

I think the problem is that people are just immature and they think being nasty and aloof is cool or something. Of course, they're not really that misanthropic because if they were they wouldn't even be on an internet forum in the first place. Some forum members probably just don't have the life experience and maturity to realise that misanthropy just looks dumb and they're impressing no-one. Everyone has that phase when they're teenagers where they think everything evil and nasty is "cool". They grow out of it, mostly. Internet Tough Guys are very transparent. Being nice to people and optimistic about life in general will get you WAY more friends and admiration/respect.

It's really annoying for me personally because I really am quite misanthropic and these pretend Internet Tough Guys are giving me a bad name and making me look like a tryhard.

See what I did there?

Well, if they enjoy hating everyone and being miserable for the sake of being smug, then kudos to them.

When something actually BAD happens in your life you'll realize what it's like to be really unhappy. It happend to my last year and right now all I want to focus on is the good stuff in life.

Being nice and helpful does bring you more, if not better friends than not being like it. If you are a lazy jackass nobody will try and be friends with you (which seems to be lost on most people I've met on the internet)

And no I didn't see what you did there :)

I think it's just that the people who are generally more people persons will go for optimism after something bad happens and loners will go for hate. Correct me if I'm wrong though

I actually use to be a loner and maybe I still am. I whined and complained about life in general and not having a girlfriend and hating everyone. Then last year my Dad got sick and almost died. He was in the ICU in a coma for a week and is still suffering the consequences. It's moments like that when you hear a doctor say the words "You're father may not survive" that you feel true and utter misery. I don't know how other loners would deal with it, but it certainly put my life into perspective.

I suppose it probably takes a bad event like that to happen before you truly unfold to who you are..
