Different renditions means different interpretations. When someone covers a song, it's usually to bring the artist's spin to the song so that it could be appriated on a higher level than if only the original artist sung it. A (not that great) example would be Muddy Water's Rollin Stone (not the original writer)
vs. The Immortal Lee County Killer's version

Both are the same song with the same lyrics and the same base chords. However, they both have different feels to the song and can apply to a larger audience.

If you it's unclear: The same song sung by a different person will yield a different result.
