Yeah, you can drink and still be relatively healthy, but there isn't really a recommended daily intake of cigarettes unless the number is zero.
Plus, regardless of what some people say, alcohol isn't addictive unlike cigarettes.

Because a few drinks everynow and again wont kill you like smoking will. Alcohol can be good for you in moderation, smoking never is, thought over the past few days I have done to much of both.
How can alcohol be good for you? Even in moderation, I can't see a reason why it's in any way, shape or form good for you.

And ciggaretes? If you don't smoke fucking 5 packets a day nothing will happen to you.

Alcohol won't effect the people around you(unless you start fights and all that but that can be prevented) where as when you smoke people would need to breath in the smoke.
Or so we are told. I know many people, myself included who have spent years around second hand smoke and had absolutely nothing health issues. You want some amusing irony? In my younger years I developed asthma when I was hardly around smoke and eventually it vanished when I happened to be around more people who smoked frequently.

If you smoke a couple cigarettes a day, it will do nothing to you. Hell it took my aunt decades to develop a serious problem from smoking and she was up to four packs (yes full packs) a day. It took four to finally cause an issue.

My personal opinion is restaurants and bars should be given the option of whether or not they wish to allow smoking. If they decide to do so, find yourself another establishment if you prefer to stay away. The reason I believe this is not implicated is the vast majority would allow smoking.

We have a big anti-drinking campaign in Britain, because we have a larger Binge Drinking culture than america.

There's one type of the antidrink adverts I like, where a woman dresses up all nice, then breaks a heel, hits her head against the wall, tears her dress and vomits in the toilet before going out.

"You wouldn't start an evening like this, so why end it like this?"

Quite clever. Sadly, I know a few binge-drinking types, and they just yell "Rubbish" at the telly when it comes on, with no actual reasoning as to why the advert's not right
I just leave them to it. I only have a few beers a week in my nice quiet local and I stopped smoking, Wow, 10 months ago now. I enjoy this a lot.

I really don't feel the need to get involved with people who waste all their money through binge drinking. That advert is exactly how I see binge drinkers and I consider most of them to be scum, who the Earth could surely do without.

Getting drunk isn't the problem. It's the carnage and anti-social behaviour that comes with it. As for the 24 hour drinking legislation? Absolutely ridiculous!

Alcohol wides the blood vessals allowing more blood and oxygen to circulate the body. This helps stop all sorts of issues such as cramp and blood clot's, narrow/blocked vessals, especailly with the elderly.

And after a night of heavy smoking I can feel the tightness of my lungs, do you even smoke out of interest?

"
And after a night of heavy smoking"
Ever heard of casual smoking? 1-2 cigars/day?

I don't smoke, by the way.

It's the opposite here.

I can't remember the last time I saw an anti-smoking advert.
But I'm pretty sure I've seen an anti-drinking advert not too long ago.

Why is drinking socially acceptable? It makes you act like a total retard and smell horrible.

OT, I don't know. Drinking I guess doesn't kill you as quickly as smoking will but its still both bullshit and thats why I don't do either.

I agree with you, although you seem to have a cynical attitude towards some alcohol.
But that's fine. I hate vodka. But not Heiniken beer. Or wine. Or some types of stout.
Sue me.
I'm a social drinker myself, I enjoy the occasional beer, stout (I enjoy Guinness), glass of wine or even a scotch. I was rather getting at the fact that people throwing down cheap mixed spirits haven't a right to berate me on my cigar smoking when they are clearly doing more damage to themselves than I.
Ah.

because the side effects of tabaco are so much easier to demonize, people with holes in there throats, people who lose there jaws to cancer (chewing tabaco). Also I think alchol is more a part of our culture than tabacco is, alchol has been around longer.

You may not want to live your life according to that, there's no shortage of evidence that suggest casual alcohol consumption is just as bad (if not worse) than casual smoking (not enough to make me stop drinking, but enough to question how harmless it is).

Money is the key. You always see advertisments for really popular products (Budweister, Fosters, WKD etc). Cigarette companys roll in the money

Because smoking is just the bad guy in the USA right now. I remember when I was a kid in the 80s they had cigarette commercials and everything, I remember them making it seem like smoking was an OK thing, and personally I think it is. Just like alcohol, if you use it in moderation you will be alright.

But I also think the drinking age here is weird. I don't understand how they can legitimately give you the right to pick your countries leaders, own a gun, get a job, fight and die for your country, and yet say you are not mature enough to have a drink. Shit your allowed to get behind the wheel of a car at 16.... it's just fucked bureaucracy, but I'm of age to do all these things now so it no longer bothers me.

In Canada, this anti-smoking crusade has gone to great lengths. Store owners can't even display cigarettes in the store, they have to keep them behind cupboard doors and such. Our drinking and smoking age is 19, our driving age is 16.

Where it starts to get really fucked up is that the government runs the locations where you can buy alcohol in some provinces and as such are profiting from it. Now, tell me who has your best interests at heart there?

I will agree that smoking is worse for your health, and for other people's health, than alcohol, but alcohol can still be abused and still cause problems. I also feel that marijuana should be legalized, but it should also have the same rules as smoking and drinking applied to it, like not being allowed to drive while under the influence and the 19 year old age limit. Hell, the government could make a killing off it, while saving tons of money in law enforcement.

Haha, I think in the U.S they should raise it to 28 at least.
Is this done in irony or is that how you communicate?
I communicate through delicious Irony. Oh the irony. How I loathe thee.
