It's because Left 4 Dead hasn't even been out for a year yet, most people think it's too early for a sequel, as well as the fact Valve still haven't released Episode 3.
this explains it for me till I learned the Half-life and Left4Dead teams are seperate. Then I just felt foolish.

It's probably because Episode 3 hasn't been released yet. I'd rather have Ep 3 than L4D2 because I want to finish the story, but L4D2 will have a longer lifespan because of replay-ability.

I don't play L4D, but I've gather this is why people are angry about it:
1) Valve promised some DLC for L4D that never came.
2) Two games will presumably split the online multiplayer community in two, so it will take longer to, Idunno, get people to join or something.
3) L4D2 doesn't really feel like a sequal, more like an expansion.

Does that cover it?
Pretty much.

Oh, and releasing a sequel year after the first game. Sounds like the kind of EA kind of move.

Ehm DLC = Survival? Dude seriously...
I'm not quite sure I understand your point here.
Valve promised DLC you say, and the DLC was the Survival..
That's kind of a lousy DLC... One mode, a map? and not even a good mode - grab ammo and sit in the corner, shooting and knocking things away.

Versus is still much better.

Yes sriously i'm tired of hearing about the boycott! If you don't like it, just don't buy it!!! Seriously stop making such a big deal out of it!!!
I agree. It's not like Valve is gonna break into their homes, steal $65 from them and give them L4D2. If you don't like it, feel free to stick your fingers in your ears, ignore it all, and pretend it doesn't exist.
And pretend there were no promises made and our money was wasted, because nobody will play the game a YEAR after release, because a "sequel" was released, with new weapons (;d), character skins, oh, sorry, new characters (like anyone cares about them) and maps, all could just as well be an EXPANSION PACK. You know, then it would be understandable.

Sequels for online games are EXACTLY like expansion packs for online games. You need them, or you are on a disadvantage.

Don't have new Warcraft add-on? You don't get 10 more levels and your character will suck.
Don't buy the sequel? Well, you still have single-player left, since most of the people will buy the sequel.

basically all the valve fans are mad because instead of half-life 2 episode 3 valve is currently releasing L4D2. Fans have been waiting for HL2:E3 for like 2 or so years while L4D2 has only a 1 year separation from its L4D counter part, hence anger.

People just feel that Valve are breaking their promise to the Left 4 Dead consumer by not supporting it in the long term (like Team Fortress 2) and releasing a sequel instead. Also its a departure from Valve's usual 1 game per 3-4 years tactic.

Its mostly just complaining for the sake of complaining in my opinion though, Valve has a amazing track record and obviously knows how to make games. I wish people would have some faith and just wait for Left 4 Dead 2 to turn out to be as awesome as its shaping up to be.
amen to that

I have L4D and although I don't plan on getting L4D2, I'm not against them making it. My reasons aren't the same as the boycotters though. I'm satisfied with the first one and I don't buy that many games, so there are plenty on my list to get before I would spend money on L4D2. I'm just hoping for at least one more campaign to be released for L4D. But if it doesn't happen, life will go on.

Bull-freaking-horse-shit! We L4D players got the "Survival Mode" DLC! We got the SDK that lets us create our own DLC! What the fuck could the spoiled children that are boycotting L4D2 possibly want from Valve to put in L4D1 that they don't already have/will get in L4D2?

The edition of expansions and sequels have always brought about rifts in their respective online multiplayer "communities". Anyone who is in the L4D2 boycott and holds onto the belief that there will be a split in the L4D "community", should have boycotted every sequel ever made, because it would "split" the online communities.

What the fuck does this mean? Does L4D2 have to be like five weeks after the events of L4D1? Is this suggesting that Unrealtournament 2004 is not a sequel of Unrealtournament 2003 because UT2004 didn't take place a billion years after UT2003? Do you fucking want Zoey, Bill, Louis and the other guy fighting in different locations after the fuckery that took place in L4D1?!

I haven't actually played L4D, so I would have a hard time knowing something like that. Please take that into account :)
Reading the first 4-5 words would have been a good idea.

And people like this are why the L4D2 defenders are just as bad as the boycotters. EgoDeusEst doesn't even play L4D, he was just stating an observation, but immediately someone has to fly off the handle about it. Everyone needs to let it rest. The game is coming out no matter what. So those who want to play it, can, and those who don't, won't.

Personally, I love the idea a new Left 4 Dead. I thought the first one had an extrememly short life as I was getting bored after the first week of buying the game. Also, I didn't even play survival as I brought the game back along with loads of other's I don't play so I could buy a couple games that would last longer.

Not quite. They did deliver some free DLC. It just happened to be the survival mode when we were expecting new campaign maps (that most would have paid for with a big smile). Other than yet dead on (well except that we are still waiting for episode 3 which has taken how many years now? And they make a sequel that doesn't need one in less than a year.)

complaining about anything is the American Dream and human nature.
Plus I'm part of the L4D2 boycott, for the reason i joined was that i felt that it was to early for a second game. Take into consideration console games, like the final fantasy series they take awhile to make a decent game. Where Value is just taking L4D and just adding all the stuff they promised us from the start but making us pay for it.
(Don't be hating me for my opinion)

"Fans are clingy complaining dipshits who will never ever be greatful for any concession you make. The moment you shut out their shrilled, tremulous voices the happier you'll be for it"

Zero Punctuation nerdery aside this statement sums it up. The fans complained about certain things that were missing (I'm a fan so I did) so they release a sequel to improve and then people *****, it does smack of being rushed a little but hey it's Valve!

EA have been getting away with this shit for years and the second Valve do it everyone goes all "WAAAAAAAAAAAAA!"

Funny because I didn't see any SDK for my 360 version and I still paid the same amount you did for your PC version. I guess they should have made it PC only if the only support the game would get in the way of new maps would be on the PC. Halo 3, LBP and Far Cry 2 all allow me to make new maps on the console versions so I guess you can't use the old "it can't be done on the console" excuse.

Complaints: Fast post-L4D1 release, unoriginal name (Left 2 Die?), no change in formula, L4D sucks as it is, probably more bugs in L4D2 because of fast production, lack of support for L4D1, and so on...

Valve has always spent their time making DLC for their games. For L4D1, they didn't do as much as they originally do, and chose to make a new game. I've heard that Valve will continue to make DLC for L4D1, but that defeats the point of making a sequel.

Lack of new content for a full priced game... and before anyone starts the "you don't know what you are talking about" bitching, I'll explain my reasons...

- New characters look like crap... just my opinion there, but that is one of the major things that turned me away from the game... And a lot of the voice clips are the same, word for word, just in a different voice...

- New weapons... AK and Scar are new... the pump, silenced uzi, spas shotgun, and new pistol all look like reskinned and/or slight model modifications from L4D weapons... Melee weapons... not much of a new addition... they are, but aren't... if you think about it, they are just like the oxygen, propane, and gas tanks, except they are more powerful instead of exploding when shot...

- Incendiary ammo is stupid and over powered... again, opinion...

- New maps... ehh... nothing wrong with that...

Seems more like a stand alone expansion pack to me... Like Crysis Warhead or FEAR Perseus Mandate... New characters and a few new things added with new levels, but game play and everything is still the same and hasn't taken a step forward or been redone... If Valve makes some way to keep the old characters in the game or when someone mods it, I might consider it...

Oh, and with the DLC promised to us with L4D, the only thing that they really gave us was Survival mode... mod tools and the other two campaigns in versus should have been included when the game was released...

But, at the end of the day, that is just my opinion, and I'll just be wasting my $50 on something else...

*sits back and waits for Painkiller Resurrection*
