Is it because noone can make up any new ideas? What? Riddick came out 4 years ago now we have a sequal. Diablo 2 was a great game i gatta admit but just drop it. I wanna see something new, I didnt try infamous yet but when i do i will give it props for being original, sometimes when i review games i give it a worse score for being a remake to a recent game or a sequal that didnt change a bloody thing

Note: i dont hate sequals and remakes i hate how they make a sequal with no inention of changing anything, i hate a remake to a pretty recent game.

Right, I'll remember that should I ever read your reviews.

I personally judge games independently of each other, or at least I try my very hardest to.

EDIT: Damn, somewhat ninja'd.

They make remakes and sequels because that is what sells. The proven formula essentially goes "stock character saving the world = $$$$". It's all really stupid and asinine, but it's never going to change as long as people keep buying games that fit the equation.

I'd like to point out that one of your examples itself is a sequel

The reason people want a sequel in games is the same that they want a trilogy in movies, literature and television series. It is much easier to enjoy something familiar than something new. I think 4 years for a Riddick sequel is perfectly acceptable. When publishers whore their brand names (like Guitar Hero for example) out 2-3 times a year there's a problem.

Because it might, just might, be possible that a certain game world and its characters are good/likable enough to be involved in another story? Or a story can be believably and entertainingly continued? Or a game can be remade because enough advances have been made to make it fun without nostalgia value?

Just maybe, you understand.

You picked some bad examples for your complaint on sequels. A sequel to a game 4 years ago would cause more reactions of "oh yeah, I remember playing that game" than displeasure.

Alas, you stole my core arguement :p so yeah, as long as a series is deemed to be profitable, sequels will continue to be made ^^
