Well I've just joined this forum because of these kinds of discussions. It was nice to see a forum with such mature discussions and so few immature comments on them (except for maybe bahumat42's comment)

It's called an off-topic board, of course it's appropriate. As for why it's such a popular topic, I don't know. It's apparently something gamers like to talk about for some reason. I've noticed that over here in the States, there seems to be a trend lately where it's rebellious and cool to not be straight, for some reason. That could be part of it.
To be fair, i'm gay and i'm sick of it too. I wish everyone would stop talking about it. It just gives idiots a place to spout uneducated idiocy. Its not gays making these threads.bahumat42 said:

or right now: "Homosexuality - Nature vs. Nurture" (which i have a problem with for being another thread posing a question that could be answered easily by doing a little academic research on the subject - but it commits a second sin by also being another gay thread)
Edit: After more thought, I suppose seeing the number of flaming type posts from worked up people these threads get, i suppose they could be started by badge hunters too.
Subjects like LGBTs cause alot of controversy, which is useful if someone is hunting for badges. I've got a friend on here who had the On Fire: 10,000 views badge on his first day, because he started a Homosexuality thread. I don't think he did it for the badge though, but posts about sexuality draw people with prejudice and those who will defend it. I sort of made a "gay thread" for the badge, it was actually about a student wearing a dress. I think it managed to beat out the thread about the baby whose head was crushed with a cinder block.Baradiel said:

It's because New York (one of the more influential states in the Union) recently legalized gay marriage. Also, it's still Gay and Lesbian Pride Month.

People can talk about whatever they want wherever they want so long as it's not obscene or inspiring hatred, that kinda what makes the internet so popular y'know.

Gaming websites would actually strike me as perfect, as gamers (without wishing to make a too sweeping generalisation) tend to be young and socially liberal, and therefore much more comfortable having discussions about these topics.

Not even bringing up the problems with generalizations, I'm going to have to disagree with the socially liberal part. At least, not on this forum. I've seen plenty of threads that were rife with homophobia and/or misogyny. The threads in the forums tend to reflect recent events in the news and pop culture. The New York law was a big change and a topic of discussion and inspiration for new threads. When something else major happens that will probably receive lots of threads so just wait it out if it annoys you.
