Seriously, I don't understand why people have such a hard on for hating EA Origin. I understand not wanting your information tracked but let's face it, if you have Facebook, Twitter, use Youtube, or have ever had to click to agree to a user agreement, you've allowed your info to be up on the internet already.

Get over it.

I honestly think that getting mad over something that almost every single website with a members' option asks for is silly. Maybe not every website tracks for info, but they all have your info. What do you think EA is going to do with your info that's so scary? Send you spam? You know what else tracks your info when you use it.

Steam.

Yet no one complains about them.
I honestly think that this has more to do with people finding a reason to hate EA than worrying about their info being tracked.

Please if someone can tell me why they hate Origin with something more than,"EA is evil" I'd love to hear your opinion.

Yeah, OP, that's the idea.

If you don't like a company, you don't do business with them. Would you mind explaining why that's unacceptable?

Beyond my not buying EA products, there's also the possibility that other publishers might decide to open up their own shops. I don't care if EA fucks off. I do care if Bethesda or 2k Games reveals after the launch of Skyrim that you have to install Vault on your computer. And it runs at all times in the background while conflicting with Steam. And they no longer offer Bethesda products on Steam. Let's not even bring up the inevitable bullshit that would arise if Ubisoft did that. DRM would dive into an even deeper circle of Hell.

On the subject of conflicting programs. Did you know that Punk Buster often registers a false positive from Steam? That "antihack" program is already shit, and, unless EA comes up with their own antihack program to run with their games, players will have to deal with Steam and Origin running with Punk Buster. What fun. I sure do love getting banned for no reason.

This is why I hate Origin.

If I killed your mother, then opened a boutique using the dead woman's name, wouldn't you find that a little crass?

That bugs me, too. I've never played an Ultima game, but Wing Commander and its clones have been a huge part of my development as a gamer. I never really did forgive EA for killing Origin.

A bit more on topic, people don't like Origin because this is EA we're talking about, and they just love to screw over the customer. Steam is just as bad, but at least Valve takes care of their customers. Really though, Digital Distribution is bad for the consumer no matter how you look at it; I like to actually own my games.

The reason I don't like it vs Steam is the information they want to be able to access. I have quite a few more "sensitive" files on my computer. IE: neices and nephews photos of them and them being young kids. I don't have these photos ANYWHERE on the net. My understanding of what they(at least originally wanted to do)want to do is be able to go through anything and everything on your computer and I'm sorry I don't think my personal files are any of their business as they do not pertain to running a game on my system. Steam goes through files related to running games(video card etc) and gives you the option to opt out of doing so. It is not mandatory. Plus I also don't think that a gaming company needs access to documents such as my resume/CV to make sure that gamers can run their games on computers...but then that's my opinion of what I understand about it. And also, its new of course people are going to ***** about it. Not everyone likes change or new things.

Because it's not Steam, and if there's one thing the geek community creams over, it's Steam, so everyone feels the need to stand up and defend it's honour, as it's being ravaged by that dastardly Origin chap.

To put it simply
Valve = Cool to like
EA = Cool to hate

People like to be cool on the internet.

Personally I'm not too worried about it. I get most of my games through retail. I am a console gamer after all.

I can probably understand why people don't like the idea of EA having the ability to look at every little detail on your computer through Origin though.

I have a question: I don't know too much about DRM, would I have to deal with something like that if I bought a new game through retail?

Ubisoft has been one of the major pushers towards always online DRM. When discussion of draconian DRM comes up, their name is never far behind. If you bought Assassin's Creed 2 at launch, for instance, any temporary loss of connection would result in losing all progress made in the game from beyond the last save point. I'm worried about what they might cook up. EA, for instance, can at block you from playing your own games because of their cross-game account.

Some guy banned from the Bioware forums discovered he was locked out of all his games which require an account with EA.

It honestly doesn't have much to do with 'Origin.' It has to do with EA, they make horrible decisions that hurt the industry and themselves. The also tend to do a lot of douche-like activities (See above: That guy never got unbanned as far as I know) so I'd have rather buy games from a company who sees us as a valued customer, and not a walking bag of cash they can push around.

In before, "Valve can ban you too duh." Valve will only ban you from a game (Being banned from the forum is just that), if they catch you cheating in a Valve server game. This will ban you from all mutli-player VAC games, not your entire game library.

I don't really hate origin but I have no use for it because I have Steam and Good Old Games. I don't need to be shoehorned into another digital platform just to play EA's games.

I just don't see a need for it at all. What happens when publishers pick up the trend of each publisher having their own digital distribution platform? I sure as hell don't want that many distribution platforms installed on my computer or have to keep track of all of them.

I see it as an acceptable reason. It's part of the reason I don't buy EA games anymore.
