Seriously is XBOX doing that bad that they have their game designers sign contracts allowing XBOX to have the exclusive DLC? What about all the PS3 players that want to play the new side missions to GTA IV? Just really irks me that now if I want to play all those fun side quests I have tp purcahse a 360 and all the games again.

Actually, it's the business model of Nintendo. Part of the reason the NES was so successful was because Nintendo would force Devs to sign exclusivity contracts in order to publish a game on the NES.

No, the SR2 DLC cost me $5.

On Topic: The reason this happens is because of business. [small]duh[/small]
Microsoft pays boatloads of money to get the exclusive DLC for the game, kinda like making that game a sudo-exclusive.

No, you're wrong. The Playstation Store is just that: a store. You access it through your PS3 to get DLC. Some, but very little, of that stuff is free. Everything else (all of the best stuff) costs money, and it is necessary to have Paypal or a similar electronic credit system to get it.

Anyway, this isn't just about how badly Xbox is doing. They have yet to make any profit from the success of the 360, that's true, but that's not why they're making contracts to keep DLC exclusive.

This is actually the typical way Microsoft has conducted itself, even in the PC/IT industry. They always try to suffocate the competition over a market share, with a view to much longer term profits. Case in point: Macintosh used to be huge; now it only has 20% of the computer operating system market. Of course, the tactic makes no real sense as a total domination technique to anyone who knows about the gaming industry, specifically the success of the Wii. But I'd expect that Microsoft will take on Nintendo once it's stolen 80-90% of Sony's market over the next two generations. Then it will release a kiddy/casual system to take on Nintendo's new audience. Mark my words.

Microsoft is trying to close the door to the money and lock it. The only question is whether they're locking themselves in or out. Remember that Nintendo did much the same thing and Final Fantasy ended up jumping ship to the Playstation.

People with PS3s actually use them to play games?
I know it caught me completely off guard. I looked up from playing Oblivion one day and saw I was using a PS3. Completely blew me off my feet.

Anyway, it's probably has more to do with the fact that Xbox development is considered somewhat easier in comparison to the PS3. PS3 DLC is not free at all, not to mention the additional hosting and maintenance costs for having it on PSN in the first place.

Someone inform the MGS pack for LittleBigPlanet, it still thinks I should be paying $5!

But on another note, this is the one thing that really irks me about Microsoft's business model, and even more about the developers themselves. If I were Bethesda or Rockstar or some-such, I would much rather have my DLC available to as many consumers as possible then to take a heap of money from Microsoft in order to deprive a good chunk of my fans of my expansions.

Just strikes me as.. wrong, but money makes the world go round.

Buy a PC. Otherwise, it's a completely legitimate business practice. Microsoft pushed for DLC on specific products, and gave the company benefits. Sony said no. Game devs are in it for the money, yes they want to tell a story, but like any human if they can get paid an assload of money, they'll take it. Anyone else would do it in their situation. I don't recall hearing this argument about how GoldenEye wasn't on the PS, or Final Fantasy wasn't on the N64. Console specific games are fine. If you really want to play them, you'll get the console, it's the idea behind capitalism. If you want your product to sell, you have to offer something the competitor doesn't. Don't ***** about it. If every system was completely equal, then neither company would get ahead of the competition. Every system being the same may seem fine to some people, but honestly without competition everything would coagulate, and everything would become boring since it only had to be the same as all it's competitors instead of striving to be better.

I think what he means is that Sony put the chage for their PSN service on the developer and not the consumer like MS does with Live. So technically it is free.. but they still charge for whatever they want.

Microsoft pays money for exclusive DLC to make their Grand Theft Auto better than Sony's. Microsoft has the money to throw around, so why not use it to take down the competition?

Also, last time I checked, Microsoft and the Xbox were doing pretty well.
