Somehow I feel like even if polygamy was legalized and people lightened up on accepting such relationships it would be more for the men with multiple wives scenario. Men with multiple wives that are consenting with the relationship would be seen more as strange. Why would you want to live up under so many wives? A woman with multiple husbands would probably be more widely seen as some kind of whore. Wow you really have that many husbands? Are you that much of a freak?TGBA said:what if it worked both ways (ie the woman could have multiple husbands as well as the husband having multiple wives)Suki the Cat said:Maybe the wifes are the ones being considered here? Oh, wait. Males rule the world. I forget.
Sort of like how many people view older people marrying much younger spouses. For men it's just kinda a weird unless it's to the extreme. For women, damn what a cougar!
I'm not going to say polygamist relationships don't work, because I have seen a few cases that have, but I really don't feel there would be much affection as the number of spouses rises. The one person I personally knew who liked being in a polygamist relationship was pretty much a loner type. She wanted affection occasionally, but that was once in a blue moon. Often she enjoyed the presence of other wives because she could push off the emotional bonding needs of her kids and husband on the other wives and get back to her work. It always seemed a little messed up to me.
Plus I could imagine a relationship with more than two spouses could easily raise tensions. No doubt a couple or one spouse would become the favorite(s) which would lead to far less affection for the remainders.
