I'm not convinced the TV is a factor. I've played at least seven other game systems on the same TV and they've all worked perfectly. It still displays my Wii & PS2 games without difficulty; why should PS3 react differently?

Yeesh, that's a bit of a problem. If you bought it from a store, return it and get a new one, and look on Freecycle for a new TV (I have a 23" CRT that I got for free that works with everything). Otherwise, still look for a new TV, but if it's your PS3 you're SOL.
While turning it on hold the power button on for 5 seconds, until it beeps. When doing that, it resets the display options to the factory default setting. Worth a shot.

Sony has been less than helpful; from the sound of it this would cost at least $150 to repair.
I have spoken to the seller and they've agreed to refund me if I return the console. Might just do that and look for a more "mint" old-model PS3; it'll probably cost more but I think it'll be worth it in the long run.

1st. what have we learned
2nd. I'm not an expert, but I'd say take it to a game repair shop and see if its cheaper to fix it or just buy a new one
3rd. beat the crap out of the guy who sold it to you, he probly knew it was a piece of shit and thats why he sold it
4th if 1-3 fail, get a new tv, that might be the problem(but I doubt it)

Wow, and I thought 360s were screwed up. Atleast I worked the shit out of mine before it crapped out on me. Twice. And yes, your Playstation 3 was stillborn. Or atleast died soon after birth. Tough, go get another one and hope for the best. Best of luck.
My suggestion is to call Sony and see if you can get it repaired or even replaced. Either way it'll cost you a decent amount of money. Another option is to try to return it and get your money back from the guy that sold it to you.
Alright. At least you tried what I was going to suggest, My PS2 had the same problem and it turned out just to be the AV cables. I mostly agree with everyone else here: smack the SOB that sold it to you, undoubtably he/she knew it was pooched.Arkvoodle said:
