Have you tryed just moving the cables around, my PS3 has started to slowly blur on the screen and after about 30 seconds it becomes unviewable. I just have to take the yellow cable out from the tv or move it around and it goes back to normal for a while.

Also does this freeze the game or just make it unviewable?
It freezes the IMAGE of the game; I can still press buttons and hear sounds that apparently suggest the thing is still in progress. But the display is useless.

i know the exact problem it is the video card cuz the exact same thing happened to my 360

My suggestion is to call Sony and see if you can get it repaired or even replaced. Either way it'll cost you a decent amount of money. Another option is to try to return it and get your money back from the guy that sold it to you.
You could try to get the person who sold it to you to pay for the reapairs.
I can see this working only if you can prove that he sold it to you with the knowledge that it was busted. That brings up another question: did you buy it from a friend, a pawnshop, or what?

That looks like a toasted graphics processor to me.

Saying it manifests are 10 minutes or so of use? Does it do it if you leave it on, but not playing anything (ie, idling?).

I think so; it does it if I leave a DVD on anyway.
I blame the Blu-ray drive, my freind has the exact same problem when he tried to play games on his.

Edit: I am 100% positive its the Blu-ray drive.

Wow, and I thought 360s were screwed up. Atleast I worked the shit out of mine before it crapped out on me. Twice. And yes, your Playstation 3 was stillborn. Or atleast died soon after birth. Tough, go get another one and hope for the best. Best of luck.
What part of 2nd hand did you miss?
Well, I meant stillborn for him. Sorry if I offended you by accidentally implying that a PS3 had come out of the factory broken.

Well it's only one of three things that could be causing it I suppose. The TV, the console, or the connection cable. Try the system on another TV with the same cable, if it works it's your TV that's the problem. If it doesn't then try a different cable to pinpoint the problem.
my friend had this problem and it got worse for some reason if you dont get the problem fixed soon(i.e. ten weeks) then it needs to be replaced cause its officially locked on 1080p but thats probably cause my friend is a idiot and was messing with the settings

If it only freezes up when its asked to play a disk, It is the blu-ray drive malfunctioning. (Stating again what is wrong, I am so very sure the cause of the problem is the blu-ray drive.)

Maybe this is the PS3's equivalent of the RROD.
...a case of only 1 console doing it is the equvilant of a system destroying flaw with an 85% rate?
RRoD can't really be 85% could it? I was thinking it might be around 28-35% compared to the PS3's like 4% (if that)

I'd say collectively it's 100%. For every someone whose console doesn't fail, there is another unfortunate soul that has had his / her console fail twice or more.

If you do the math on a per-user basis, the percentage will be much lower than if you do the math on a per-console basis.

It depends on how you look at it I guess. I'm also referring to the first-generation consoles, as the failure rate with recent hardware revisions seems to have brought the console's failure rates down to the industry-standard level.

Its never the connection cable... except for the odd time when it is.

God I hate it when people decide to pull that one out. yes its the most simplistic component with the least that can go wrong, but something can still go wrong.

I donno. Honestly if its happening after an amount of time it may be that their video card/chipset is overheating? just a shot in the dark from a girl lacking sleep.

I'm going to second all the posts saying hardware malfunction.

Furthermore... Could we stop comparing 360 with ps3?...
I'm not on anyone's side, but I'm sure there's another thread for this (or hopefully a strictly enforced muzzle)

Oh, if you're getting another system, get at least a 40GB. 20GB not much space when you have to install every single game.
I have 20 games. Only 3 of them require an install (minus DLC, of course.) 20GB is fine if you're not a download-heavy gamer.

Oh, and I agree with the chap above that said the core issue is that some TOOL obviously knowingly sold him a toasted system.

No, he's right. An 'ex'-worker leaked the report and got sued. 85% and quality control - pah - was aware of it.

Sounds like this one has overheated and the guy tried to rip someone off. Get your money back or he has succeeded.
