What's your backup weapon?

Crowbar, your standard melee weapon for when the ammo supply starts to run low.

As for primary, screw the shotgun, I'd take an AK-47 or other automatic rifle designed to deliver each bullet with a punch. Enough force to rip open a zombies head in one shot, used on single shot it has more ammo per clip, greater power, and similar accuracy to a shotgun.

Of course, seeing as I possess neither a crowbar nor any gun I'd probably end up using the nail-removal end of a hammer.

EDIT: actually an axe would be more effective than a hammer, though I'd still keep the hammer handy as the axe may get stuck in something (or what was someone.)

Also, considering things like nemesis, I'd probably want a high-powered sniper rifle, assuming I could learn to use it. Screw close quarters with that monster, I'm taking him out from half a town away... preferably while supported by tanks and with the army clearing up the remnants of the zombie infection.

Well, I wouldn't have a shotty as my primary. I would have a bolt-action rifle of some kind, probably with a scope for long-range. Shotguns look awesome, but blood spatter and atrocious range make them highly impractical in any case of "real" zombie invasion I can think of. My secondary would then be either M1911's akimbo or a very, very sharp scythe (the shape of a scythe's blade a) make it very dificult to get stuck and b) reduce blood spatter).

It's the zombie apocalypse and you have your trusty shotgun handy, but what's your backup weapon?

Sword? What kind?
Club?
Combat knife?

What would you want to swing at the zombie hordes when you run out of bullets?
Slingshot. I am wicked accurate with it and it's a good mid to long range weapon.

Hell man, those things are like fucking battle axes.

Anyway, I thing I would use the antler from the hunting trophy in my living room simply for the novelty.

I'd have this as a sidearm. No special skills needed to use it, unlike katanas and all that shit, and it's just as useful

I'd have this as a main weapon I think :D

And this as an afterthought:

My backup would be whatever I could find.
A bat, a sword, maybe even a gun if I'm lucky.

My main weapon is my wits, you see.

Truthfully the .38 in my pocket, but if I could have anything id like to have this [http://eagleswords.com/library/FantasyClawDagger5.jpg] claw thing, I don't really know the best way to classify it, it's pretty sweet.

edit: Everyone is adding their main weapons so I thought I would too, this [http://www.rc-trucks.org/Kimber-1911-Custom-II.jpg] Kimber .45 is on my hip at all times. Well...kind of, mines a different model.

A 7-foot sword made of the sharpest/strongest materials, with a great AoE fire attack, and +99 attack against the undead.

The M6D, from the original Halo. From Halopedia:

The M6D uses 12.7x40mm M225 SAPHE (Semi Armor Piercing High Explosive) magnum loads. These rounds have a jacket of copper or cupro-nickel around the projectile while the projectile itself is hollow and filled with an explosive compound and a delayed-detonation impact fuse. When the round impacts a target, the jacket will initially help the projectile maintain its shape, allowing it to travel into the target before detonating almost immediately after impact, causing massive tissue damage and system shock. Semi-armor piercing rounds are more effective against infantry targets as compared to armor piercing rounds due to the massive KE dump and catastrophic system damage caused by internally-fracturing rounds, and have the added bonus of posing less risk to friendlies and noncombatants in the vicinity of the target. The explosive properties of the rounds also render them decently effective against personal shielding systems and are capable of damaging lightly-armored vehicles.

A pistol, with a scope, that is as accurate as a rifle, with exploding bullets. Fuck yes.
I'm with this guy. The original Magnum could kill a hunter, one shot.

Imagine what it would do with a Tank...or Witch...heheh...

Dual weild swords. Masamune (Sephiroth's sword) and the Ashbringer. Perfect zombie hunting weapons.
