What's your best and worst thing to Happen in the history of gaming ?

The best thing has to be half-life, because it revolutionised the whole fps genre. Without it the shooters we play now propably wouldn't exist.

Piracy must be the worst thing for gaming, because it is the reason we have these insane DRM's. It has also had an effect on which games come out on pc and which wont.

best: The adventure genere. I paved the way for imperimental game play. not everything was good but at least they we're all different.

worst: current gen technolgy. I don't want to sound like an old codger complaining about how things were better in his day but these days it seems like developers are trying to make games as detailed (looking) as possible while foregoing everything else. the result is games cookie cutter games with no originality that are detailed as hell but are all set in ruined landscapes devoid of life, color, or fun.

I can play with my friends without being in the same room. I get to play with new people who have varied experience and styles. However, some of those people are 12 year old boys, or super serious "girl gamers" with something to prove.

I'd say the best thing was the arrival of the original 'Nintendo Entertainment System'. Without it gaming would have withered and died with the likes of Atari home consoles.

Worst thing? Demonisation in the news. School shootings blamed on violent video games. And the likes of Jack Thompson religiously spouting hatred for gaming in general.
Of course that certain issue is resolved now.

My worst was on Test Drive 4,I was running from the police (the game book actually says to pull over when cops are on ya) and i was going down the San Francisco hill (like 5 hills one after the other) and a cop literally flew over the top of my car and pulled my ass over.
Everyone in the room was watching when this happened,I was so embarresed.
A big WTF I still think,and this was over a decade ago.

Worst: When the newest gen of consoles came out and now we have fanboys and even casual fanboys destroying the beauty of games.

Oh and when Machinima went fuck all and just started publishing crappy gameplays with voice overs. Haven't seen a decent machinima movie since 2006...
