My biggest disappointments have been the shortening of single player mode, and episodic gaming. Its common now for single player to be under 10 hours, sometimes much less then that. I think CoD4 took me 6 hours, devil may cry 4 can be done in like 3 hours, and portal was a joke at 1 1/2 hours with no replay value. Multiplayer is fine and all that, but out of 10 multiplayer games, one might be good enough to spend more then a few hours online with.

Episodic gaming needs to die. Getting milked for money on an incomplete story line for a few hours of gameplay is not my idea of fun. Seeing more and more games going this way, if its not crappy short mini packs that don't have an ending (like HL2 ep1&2) its planed sequels (assassins creed, mass effect) I know story is a secondary element to a game, but its still a big enough part that getting an incomplete one is just wrong
You are soooo right. Who decided less than 10 hours was acceptable for a single player campaign anyways? I don't so much mind the sequels (especially of Mass Effect, I can't calculate how many hous of my life I lost), but episodic gaming and shot single player games definitely need to go.

I do not hate Halo.
I just think it's time for Microsoft to stop milking it.
Also, 100% agreed. And I love Halo, but whoring = bad.

Halo-Halo2.

The original was EXTREMELY balanced but 2 got mucked up. Rockets are WAY to overpowered.

Don't get me started on Halo 3.

GTA IV, and only because no one will call me for the next assignment so I end up just running around trying to get through the police barriers. ( I cant believe you get 5 stars for just trying to cross that stupid bridge).

I'm going to be bold and say that this entire generation has been a disappointment. Games these days are extremely overhyped and are interesting ideas, but execution seems to be a problem for most developers. Games like Assassin's Creed and Army Of Two, which looked very promising in all the media they released, but the end products were very mediocre. I have to say this is the worst generation to exist so far, with so many lackluster games being released that just aren't fun or fun for too long. GTAIV was the greatest thing ever for all of two weeks. It seems the only games that really have kept me interested were Mass Effect and Gears Of War, both of which i play alot of these days even though they have been out for quite awhile.

I mean even dependable serieses like Call Of Duty aren't as good as they once were. Yeah yeah, Call Of Duty 4 was good and whatnot, but compared to the original, it was nothing.

In my opinion, last generation was as good as it could get. The huge jump in graphics from PS1 to PS2 was simply amazing. Plus there were titles such as Halo 1, Splinter Cell, KOTOR, Metal Gear Solid 3, etc.

I've been thinking about this issue alot lately, and it's making me go back and replay older games now. The other day i played Fallout 2, and enjoyed it sooo much. I had never played a Fallout game before, me only being 15, and it was the most fun i have had in a long time. I think that i will continue to go back and play relics to tide me over until something good comes out and digs this generation out of its grave.

Sorry if i got a tad off topic.

"all the gamers" and "mouthy trend whores on internet message boards" are not equivalent.

Example:

"Also, 100% agreed. And I love Halo, but whoring = bad."

Three games so far, across two generations? 1 1/2 games per generation is not whoring.

To be fair, considering that Call of Duty appeared around the Halo 2 period, and they're currently on their fourth instalment (with a fifth soon to come, and a sixth in development), Microsoft look marvellously restrained in comparison.
Yes but there are differrences.
Halo is around a single person who has almost died twice or more.
Call of Duty is about a whole war not revolving around one person. And the last Call of Duty wasn't even about WWII it was about modern warfare hence the name Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

Im sorry but I don't see how that has any relevance to the previous statement. he was taking about how halo isn't really milking the franchise that much in comparison to other popular games

I was also dissapointed with Gears. The story, which had really oppurtunity, was just terrible.

My biggest dissapointment, though, is MGS4. I bought a PS3 basically just for it. I get sucked into the hype, and buy the game on the first day.

I play the game, have an alright time, and get to the third act and realize something. I just didn't care.

It's hard to explain. I just didn't feel the need to play anymore.

And before I forget, Halo 3. I mean I had a decent time with it, but it just couldn't live up to the endless hype and promise.

Guns n' Roses - Chinese Democracy. Oh, wait...

Probably the perpetual delay of Spore. I don't even really want to play it anymore, to be honest. I was really excited back in, what, 2005? Three years later, its almost out. It wouldn't surprise me if it was pushed into 2009, although they'd probably make a just-before-the-holidays release instead, if it does get pushed back.

But my biggest gripe is probably the fact that we are in the so called "Next Generation" of gaming and I see most of the same crap I have seen since the PS2 came out. Assassin's Creed came pretty damn close, I will say, but as a game it lacked substance. Hopefully they can correct their repetitive missions formula and produce one hell of a sequel.

The new Turok game, no contest. When I watched the initial gameplay videos I was all like "Holy shit, stealth creeping with awesome knife kills, fantastic CQC, cool weapons, and intelligent dinosaur and human AI?"
But when I played the game for the first time, my reaction was more like "What is this shiiiiit?"

Also, I'm greatly dissapointed by the way the new generation of gaming has basically CASTRATED split-screen multiplayer. Seriously, wtf?

A big disappointment for me was Oblivion. Ugh, I heard nothing but good things from that game, so I got it. I played it for a few hours and... I took it out of my Xbox 360, sick of it. I dunno why, but something about it just wants me to kill it.

Fuzion Frenzy 2 dissapointed you? Cuz i found it to be exactly what i expected.

The Orange Box had Portal. And for those of us who have console HL2 it was a very good thing indeed to get two episodes in one box.

Have you guys heard of the Halo board game? Seriously. Or that eventhough I love Halo, I was hoping the chief would die at the end, but instead we got ANOTHER cliffhanger ending. Halos time is over, and unless they do a radical reimagining, I'll cry when/if they make another one. Plus look at Halo 3's story and tell me they weren't just rushing through it to get to the multiplayer (example: the Elite's story, Gravemind got marginalized, and Cortana went from rogue to sane in about 5 seconds).
