You guys ever heard of Sybil Ludington? Revolutionary War-era young girl who rode all through my town to rally the minutemen to arms late, late at night with word that the British army had just burned Danbury, CT. Think Paul Revere, but side-saddle. Anyway, we have a statue of her.

Right now it's a draw between Kirk's Bar or the construction site where they're putting in a Taco Bell.

I live in LA and all I can think of is Disney Hall. Not bad but we can do better for a big city.
Actually, Disney Concert Hall is pretty new and might not be recognized by a lot of people(unless they've watched Iron Man). We have plenty of landmarks, LA is pretty big if you don't separate the satellite cities/communities. We have:

Sunset Strip/Walk of Fame/Grauman's Chinese Theatre/Hollywood Sign
UCLA/USC
Los Angeles Coliseum (For the Olympics)
Pasadena (Rose Parade and a song from the Beach Boys)
Capitol Records
Alex Theatre (American Idol Audition)
Farmer's Market

I live in Perth city Australia. Best we have is a very ugly convention centre that looked like someone threw half a pancake on the entire eastern shore. Second we have the bell tower that exists for no purpose other than to occassionally ring bells. Finally we have a ferris wheel because, well everyone needs one.
We have a descent Zoo though.

*rubs hands together*

Well, I have a few landmarks here in Auckland...

This is a massive dormant (I think) volcano sitting in the harbour of a city of one million peepz - and it was only formed 600 years ago. You can still see black volcanic rock and all the shenanigans over there, but nobody dares live on it.

The Sky Tower - a massive needle in the middle of town. Why is it there? Who knows. Maybe to add something to the skyline that appeased our mayor's love for smack.

We also have a tonne of volcanoes dotted around Auckland (about 52 because we live on the edge) which makes for some nice sight-seeing.

So come to Auckland! It's great here. Just avoid South Auckland. That place is bad juju.

I would not want to see it garden gnomes freak me out enough
Don't play Sims3 then. There are magical lawn gnomes you fish out of the ponds/ocean or find in bits of rock. These gnomes move around at night whenever you aren't looking. Flushing toilets, messing with lights and stereos. You can build a wall with no doors or windows around them, and they get out the second you look away.
sadly you are too late to warn me =/

The Terminal Tower is our landmark... no wait, probably the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

I think it should be the Terminal Tower. >.>
