I dunno if it's controversial or not, but I think there isn't enough love in the world. And this so called "progressive society" we live in, is, in some ways, no more progressive than it ever has been 10,000 years ago.

I believe sex is a special, meaningful act that you should share only with the person you are married to. I get some really weird looks from people when they first ask if I'm a virgin and I say yes, then they ask why and I give them that answer.
The fact that I believe in God also seems to be rather controversial, at least on this site.
Prepare for an excrement storm of hatred on this site. Many people on this site automatically demonise you as soon as you say you believe in God or Jesus, because they automatically associate you with every single bad thing done by human beings in the name of "Christianity". I personally hate all those things as much as anyone, and I can't stand religion or Christianity as much as the next person, but I still believe in Jesus.
Actually dis-regard that above, that's my controversial opinion.

I have several. Then again, I'm a Liberal, Pagan, Bisexual female living in the bible belt.
1) The US is NOT a christian nation. It's right there (several times) in the Constitution. People refusing to believe this does not make it false. No religion, or it's beliefs, should be taught in schools. No religion or it's beliefs should be allowed to dictate law. No religion should have carte blanche to to shit talk and demonize any other religion (or atheists.)
I agree, the US is post Christian and should offer freedom of choice. I don't think it should ban religious teaching in schools, but should provide a fair and balanced approach to teaching all faiths; therefore people have a balanced view.

2) Illegal aliens should be rounded up and shipped back to where they came from, and border security needs to beefed to the max. I lived in Sanctuary City (AKA Houston, Texas) most of my life...I've seen what these people do. The "they just come here for a better life" story people use to pull heart strings is a total crock. Also, while we're at it, get rid of citizenship upon birth. At least one parent MUST be a citizen.
I agree, immigration, while good for the immigrants trying to escape a bad country, is bad for the natives in some way. I think that instead of housing them all in our good countries, we should be doing more to help the bad countries become at least okay.

3) Free speech needs relooked. I understand the importance of the law, don't get me wrong. But when you have Faux Noise brainwashing a good chunk of the country like it does and hiding from any and all punishment behind the First Amendment, or Westboro Baptist being completely immune from punishment for the harm they cause people...No. There needs to be a way for other citizens to hold these people, and any others who would abuse the power, accountable.
I dis-agree here. Should people always have the right to voice their opinions? Yes. Should I or YOU have the right to disagree with them? Absolutely. But I do agree the intrinsic issues brought about with this ideal, mainly epitomised by the Westboro Baptist Church (whom I am wholly and utterly opposed to).

4) Stop thinking your beliefs trump my rights. I should be able to marry any consenting adult I want. And the only other people who should have any weight in a decision over my body are the guy involved and my doctor.
I agree, there should always be a choice and it should always be made freely.

5) Tax churches. They long ago stopped adhering to the "No political preaching" rule. And on that note, NO TAX DOLLARS for "faith based initiatives." If you can piss and moan about your tax dollars going to my healthcare, I should be able to deny you mine for your religious shit.
Many churches are not taxed because they act as a charitable organisation. The church I go to is one of these churches, they do charitable things in the local community every day of the week. I think that churches who cannot sufficiently prove themselves doing charitable outreach to their community should be taxed. But those who are acting as a charitable organisation should receive the break.

Think that's plenty enough to have me several quotes of flaming when I log in next.
Please don't take my responses as flaming, it's simply my thoughts. At the end of the day, you're incredibly switched on. By the way, if anyone ever tries and guilts you into/out of something in the name of "God" or "Jesus" or "Allah" or whatever, they are not acting in their respective Gods' name. As far as my faith teaches, we are loved unconditionally and are free to choose our own destiny, so just go about whatever you want to.

i think its really lame how all these kids here can think of to say here is OMG I HATE CHRISTIANS RELIGION SUX when asked about a controversial opinion.
Maybe that's because their only experiences/perceptions of "Christianity" have been incredibly negative. I can't stand Christianity, yet I still believe in Jesus. Shed the names, labels, PR and the perceptions and just get to the raw stuff of Jesus' teachings; all you find is pure love. And it can be hard for people to see that if the only 'Jesus' they've known was abusive, judgemental, cold or just plain nasty; and lets face it, there are many who claim to be 'in with Jesus' who are utter assholes. I can't stand what they do as much as the next person, trust me, I know a few.
