Well since there's been a thread that asked what opinion you had that others disagreed with, I'm taking it a step further. What opinion do you have that might cause outrage? (game hate when among said game's fanboys not withstanding.) If you feel the need, spoiler it, and put in the spoiler tag who it may offend.

I want to preface this by saying that I am a huge fan of culture and tradition, and for that reason, I do believe that various religious practices and ceremonies should continue due to their traditional and cultural value. However, while tradition can be important to maintain the identity of your people (If you're that kind of person) I do feel that when it comes to logical and scientific decision making, religion should not be factored, and until it is removed as a factor from important decisions like this, humanity is being held back. This can range from decisions of logic and safety, like the use of condoms, to steps in science such as Stem Cell research. While I appreciate the philosophical and moral aspects of this, the religious aspect of such an opinion is only getting in the way of dealing with it reasonably. I would say that the best solution would be some kind of checkbox when donating sperm, or eggs to a fertility clinic. Removing the emotional attachment a pregnant woman might feel towards the life growing inside her will help I realize it sounds a little harsh, and am only stating it as a step in the right direction. If I had to give a historical example, I would point out how several interpretations of religion forbade the dissection of humans, and it was only with the founding of the Greek city of Alexandria that things slowly came about to a more logical point of view.

It isn't my intention to pointlessly offend, and I have tried to state my argument in a reasonable way, suitable for a level headed debate.

Edit: Also, the forum posting button freaked out on me, I don't know if it'll mess stuff up.

I think religionsIslam and Christianity should fuck right off the world. Without any religious people being hurt, except for maybe the Pope, islamists and whatever other people use religion for power and/or harm. I see no reason for why people believe in any of this mumbo jumbo other than greed (the different variants of heaven), it being hammered into their minds throughout their life (any religion and society ever) and the threat of harm (the different punishments of religions, such as hell.)
I sadly won't mention the second opinion of mine because I believe that it would be too controversial, even for this place.

Spoiler'd to avoid unintentionally offending anyone. Topic is paedophilia.
I feel paedophiles get viewed worse than they should. You rape a child, then by all means you're bringing down the rightful hatred of those around you, but paedophiles aren't destined to do harmful things. That they're judged as a whole for the worst possible manifestation of their condition seems wrong to me.

According to Jungian psychology, man must believe in God to exist but, for the same reasons, God cannot actually exist. I'm not agreeing or refuting, just some relevant food for thought.

I believe sex is a special, meaningful act that you should share only with the person you are married to. I get some really weird looks from people when they first ask if I'm a virgin and I say yes, then they ask why and I give them that answer.
The fact that I believe in God also seems to be rather controversial, at least on this site.

I think that art, music and other creative subjects are more important that stuff like science and maths.

Religon is a foolish belief which needs to not have a hand in influencing modern day systems. Science needs to be allowed to expand into contravrsial areas because our overzealous laws on it is delaying progress. Football in England is shit, epsically our mad belief we'll win the world cup and the fucktards called professional footballers need to get several zeros knocked off their salaries. PC elitists just need to stop being such twats and COD is actually better then what most people here say. Finally, Britain should leave Afganistan ASAP, as we have no reason to be there. And don't use the "innocent people" line, overall view from the local population is that the west should leave. Send our troops to places like lybia, where we are actually being asked to help, rather then stomp over a country which already disliked and had little trust in the west.

I have several. Then again, I'm a Liberal, Pagan, Bisexual female living in the bible belt.

1) The US is NOT a christian nation. It's right there (several times) in the Constitution. People refusing to believe this does not make it false. No religion, or it's beliefs, should be taught in schools. No religion or it's beliefs should be allowed to dictate law. No religion should have carte blanche to to shit talk and demonize any other religion (or atheists.)

2) Illegal aliens should be rounded up and shipped back to where they came from, and border security needs to beefed to the max. I lived in Sanctuary City (AKA Houston, Texas) most of my life...I've seen what these people do. The "they just come here for a better life" story people use to pull heart strings is a total crock. Also, while we're at it, get rid of citizenship upon birth. At least one parent MUST be a citizen.

3) Free speech needs relooked. I understand the importance of the law, don't get me wrong. But when you have Faux Noise brainwashing a good chunk of the country like it does and hiding from any and all punishment behind the First Amendment, or Westboro Baptist being completely immune from punishment for the harm they cause people...No. There needs to be a way for other citizens to hold these people, and any others who would abuse the power, accountable.

4) Stop thinking your beliefs trump my rights. I should be able to marry any consenting adult I want. And the only other people who should have any weight in a decision over my body are the guy involved and my doctor.

5) Tax churches. They long ago stopped adhering to the "No political preaching" rule. And on that note, NO TAX DOLLARS for "faith based initiatives." If you can piss and moan about your tax dollars going to my healthcare, I should be able to deny you mine for your religious shit.

Think that's plenty enough to have me several quotes of flaming when I log in next.

Mine would be that I'm a christian and a lot of people seem to dislike us (at least on this site) for various reasons but I've learned to deal with it. I also listen to christian metal and that is like taboo in the metal world and on almost every christian metal youtube video there are always debates about religion in the comments, another reason I've learned to never read the youtube comments.

Other then that I don't really have any hugely controversial opinions on anything, most of my opinions I have a good reason for thinking that way and if I don't I won't bring it up.

Ironically enough, saying what you've said is against the forum rules. Not that I'm encouraging you to back down, I think it's a pretty silly rule; it stifles what can be an interesting discussion because it's slightly uncomfortable?

A couple of users have been banned for it anyway.

I think Mario 64 is a boring old bag of yawns with slippery controls and irritating levels. Mario Sunshine was better, Mario Galaxy is miles better.

Well...that's certainly unpleasant. I mean no offence to anyone by it and don't think anyone would think I did, but I guess to be safe I'll throw a spoiler around it. I think it's a valid contribution though so I'm not about to delete it, but...eh, hopefully it's deemed respectful enough to stay. Wouldn't want to lose my spotless record this close to 1000 posts XD

That is ironic though, my opinion is TOO controversial. Does that mean I'm winning?

I don't like the weight some people place on genetics, as a result I skate close to the ground of homophobes by not being fully sold on people being born one sexual preference or the other. For the same reason, I'm very anti people who put their obesity or addictions down to genetics or for that matter anyone who chalks a victory up to genetics. It just seems like genetics are the new God and are seen as all powerful and make it seem like things have nothing to do with their choices and their environment...

EDIT: I have heard a fairly convincing argument about group dynamics and the multiple function of genes that make genetics and homosexuality viably connected, but I'm still not sure it's enough for it be touted as deniable truth.

2nd EDIT: Also, I kind of liked M. Night Shyamalan's Unbreakable and I didn't hate the village...

There's just as much truth in the Bible as there is in the theory of evolution.

How anyone chooses to interprate this is up to them.

I used to get this same thing. Now I'm married with a 5-month old son, so no one asks. :p

I have very little sympathy for smokers complaining about where they're allowed to smoke and that can get heated quickly.

I believe that every single thing in this world should be free (food, clothes, cars, medical care, houses, etc...), we should do away with money, and have all people on the planet work for no pay (well, all the free stuff would kind of be pay).

As a child I always thought that this solution would solve all issues human beings could ever face.

I don't like call of duty, at all or most realistic war-games such as battlefield and homefront.

Also, I am a Muslim; that alone will get me (and has gotten me) into lots of trouble

I believe that countries who want to develop nuclear weapons should be allowed to do so.

The US has them. China has them. The UK, Russia, India and France has them. Who are we to say what other nations should ro shouldn't do?

I think illegal immigrants should get paid equally if they're doing work that American citizens are doing, and companies should be forced to abide by this principle.

This one always trips people up because they've been conditioned to hone in on that phrase 'illegal immigrants,' and will thus whine "B-b-but they're illegal immigrants! They're here illegally, so they shouldn't have to be paid the same!" Unfortunately, citizenship status is not an influencing factor in how a company should pay someone for the work they do, the work they are performing is. If an illegal immigrant were to do the same job as me, I say they should get paid the same wage as I do.

Which brings me to my next point: the only reason we're seeing so many illegal immigrants getting work in America is because all of these companies are willing to exploit the desperation of the poor to pad their own profits. You have these workers willing to work for less money, and almost none of the protections afforded to citizens, and of course a businessman is going to think "$$$" and hire them. Take away that illegal advantage that these companies are using, and they have little reason to hire them over citizens or legal immigrants.

No one ever thinks about that shit, though, because they're all too willing to scapegoat these other people who are just trying to make better lives for themselves (just like anybody else), rather than face the reality that they're being screwed over by those in power. "Ooo, it's not my boss' fault that he wants to increase profits however he can, it's those damn Mexicans out to take my job!"
