i'd personally like a mystery/crime game in the style of a film noir.it will include:
game play:
1-over the shoulder gameplay
2-the kinds of clues you find/decisions you make actually affect who the bad guy is each time you play
3-mainly sneaky stealth sections with the occasional fist/gun fight
4-wide open city with shady nightlife and scummy back alleys

visual/audio aesthetic

1-black and white,maybe with other colors for contrast (like in Sin City),or colored but at the same time dark
2-make use of voice actors,preferable actors that don't all have "grr grr,rocks in a blender" type voices
3-the guns actually sounds like guns and fists hitting faces sound like fist hitting faces and not cartoonish computer made sound effects
4-realistic villains/heroes,with limited super human "shot in the computer and lived" type situations

i don't know what the plot would be,but those aspects above would be a must have in the game

a fantasy-style, sort-of-sandbox, RP-based MMO...
individual levels for each feature, and NPCs that can teach you stuff too...
also, realistically dangerous wildlife, so you feel like straying from the path really is dangerous (which i guess would be guarded) then, quests generated from events that occur in the world (and this is a lame example, but...) ...say, a guard that patrols a path through a forest is killed by... i dunno snakes or something... go thin them out... a boring quest yes, but it would be cool to have that kind of reason behind those typical quests... also, stuff doesnt respawn for no reason, for example... huge endgame demon-y things would be both horribly difficult to kill, and like anything else, only exist once... i suppose turning it into some form of 'event'... first to kill it gets the... whatever it drops...
then a bounty system, where commiting crimes raises the bounty, and if you get killed by a player or the law, the criminal pays that money to them.

its certainly not perfect, and its not necessarily more fun than any other MMO, but its my pipedream.

An MMO that's a mix between FPS and RTS. Although I should clarify that the FPS more resembles Arma2 than say, Halo. The officers of different tiers work on different RTS levels, but still have to move about in the FPS world themselve.

There would be 4 or 5 factions with server determined objectives like in Risk (take control of towns/cities, reduce faction Y's size to Z towns or XX icnome). The team of officers have to form strategies and partial goals to reach this objective.

Each town, city or area has RTS type production facilities and resources which have to reach each faction's HQ through transport by truck. These production facilities produce for instance ammunition etc. Since we're talking Arma2 style, ammunition, fuel, etc.. needs to be constantly supplied to the troops.

The map would be a huge island where every faction has its HQ at a port.

Air combat would be limited to helicopters, travel by sea would be limited as well.

The factions could resemble real life states, granting the faction certain perks and a certain assortment of armament.

The soldiers could all be players. Clans or guilds could form pre-made squads. But in case of a shortage of players, AI could be used by the officers. And random squads could be made of individual players. A squad can have specialities: para troops with plenty of supplies and mortars to hold out behind enemy lines, a collection of assault squads with APC's, etc... More dull tasks like truck driver, artillery operator or guard duty could be left to AI units, but could be done by players as well if they so wish.

Yes I've thought about this before...
And yes, I see plenty of issues (ballancing respawn would be hard, how to make sure a squad doesn't go rogue and troll the entire server, etc...).

But seeing as we won't be technically capable of doing this the way I want for at least another 15 years, I've got some time to think about some solutions for those issues ;)

OT: I want real destructible environments -- and ones that don't feel like they're made out of expanded polystyrene and toothpicks (Red Faction: Guerilla and upcoming sequel), or ones that are just arbitrary (earlier Red Factions and kinda Bad Company).

Then give me cell-phone detonated explosives, anti-materiel rifles with incendiary AP ammo, the AA-12 with a 30 round drum clip loaded with mini-grenades...

Actually, that there sounds good. I could stop here. But I want to be an assassin and scope out target locations before the mark gets there -- like on a different day, not for a minute and a half like some Hitman levels.
