So many movies, books, games and other things feature characters that are A.I. so I think it'd be interesting to see which ones people think are the coolest.

My choice would definitely go to Mendicant Bias from the Halo series. After being persuaded by Gravemind, he used 5 million ships against his creators. He helped doom an entire race to extinction! Not even the most talented turn-coat you know could do that on their best day! He's also got a neat looking emblem (as seen in my avatar pic).

Plenty of good ones to choose from but my vote goes with Shodan.

So very creepy.

R2-D2 the fact that they were able to give that little guy such a likable a personality without him having a face or a voice is nothing short of amazing

From gaming I'd go with Legion. Because that's an AI that is almost sufficiently distant from the human paradigm. But in general, yes, Hal9000. I can't let you do that, Dave. And a special hug goes out to Gerty from Moon.

This. Their avatoids are so cool.

I suppose Multivac by Isaac Asimov was quite cool. But ultimately I think when sentient AI is created, it's going to be really boring..

Oh, I'm a big fan of the Cylons in general, although towards the end of their evolution they were a bit less "artificial" in nature.

I'll second this.

I just love his scene so much, and even more the ability to explore what it means...

Daedalus from Deus Ex. Edi's also pretty cool though, as is GLaDOS.

Hal9000's kinda a douchebag

Hmmm... I love Glados and Wheatley from Portal, but HAL9000 is too darn iconic to exclude. However, i also have to add Wintermute from Neuromancer, just because i love the name.

Hmmm...honourable mention of Holly from Red Dwarf, though.

"He's dead Dave, everybody's dead Dave, everybody is dead, Dave." Makes the horror of waking up when everyone is dead into something that doesn't stop being funny.

You've seen Moon?! You guys are awesome.

GERTY is definitely a memorable one. He's like a more benevolent version of HAL-9000.

Still, I'd have to go with HAL due to his dichotomous personality. He's cold and calculating, yet at the same time is terrified of deactivation (similar to how people fear death).
