Metal Gear Solid 1 because Metal Gear Solid 1.

There is no better answer.
Still never finished that... but what I have played is amazing. I'll get to it sometime!

Mine has to be MediEvil 1. It was the very first video game I played, and to this day still one of my favourites. Its incredible blend of black humour, gothic atmosphere and wonderful music goes unparalleled even today. Crash Bandicoot 1 is a very close second, though.
I loved that game since I was like 2 or something. Loved it. When I saw it on the PSN Store, I bought it instantly. Still haven't beaten it either though...

Also, Spyro the Dragon 1, the only one I owned, any Crash Bandicoot game, and Syphon Filter.

Recently, I picked up a handful of old PS1 games second-hand: Soul Reaver, Resident Evil 1, 2 and 3, Spyro the Dragon 2, MediEvil 2... I might need to update this in a bit.

Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus, without a doubt. Followed by Jet Moto and Crash Bandicoot 2.

How are the Spyro games holding up nowadays anyway? I remember having quite some fun with the first one, although the scope and level design was somewhat limited by the power of the PS1.

I always had a soft spot for Tail Concerto. Which few people seem to have heard of.

It's a tie between MGS and Quake 2.

Q2 was incredibly fun to play in local splitscreen but MGS has amazing storyline and unseen presentation of cutscenes at the time.

Legend of Dragoon. Great FF-style game with an exxcellent combat mechanic.

Story was so cliche it would be great fun to pick apart, but when you become the Dragoon for the first time :D

Hmmm... tough choice as that console had some pretty damn good games on it.

While I was a huge of fan of the final fantasy games on that console, I think I'm going to have to go with Breath of Fire 3. I really like the way the characters age and change, and it has the ultimate "wham" moment when Balio and Sunder show up to wreck your shit. I'm also a fan of how they handled the graphics of the PS1, only using CG for the spell animations means it's still a reasonably good looking game. Also, you get to turn into a whole bunch of different types of dragons. Hard to compete with that.

I only played the demo, thought it was not up to par with Crash, Spyro and Ape Escape.

Just remembered an awesome game (although I think it has aged quite bad): Jumping Flash :D

This is really, really tough. But I think Bushido Blade was one of the most unique and challenging games I played. I think that was one of the first games I was compelled to try and see every ending with every character...damn you Katze...

Final Fantasy IX. Happens to also be my favorite game ever.

It's definitely the best PS1 game ever. You all know it to be true, even if you outwardly deny it!

Easily FFIX as thats the only PS1 game I kept my physical copy of. Second place being between MediEvil and Legacy of Kain:Soul Reaver.
